Hello pet enthusiasts, welcome to Pet Chat. My name is Jason Zukoski. I'm the dog dad of Bunsen and Beaker, the science dogs on social media, and Bernoulli. Now my co-host is.
Speaker 3:Hi there, I'm Chris Zukoski. I am the dog mom to Bunsen and Beaker and Bernoulli and the cat mom to Ginger and Bernoulli and the cat mom to Ginger.
Speaker 2:Every week in Pet Chat, we invite our community that spans Twitter, instagram and Facebook to come together to listen to pet stories from around the world. We invite folks on audio to come up to the stage after we share our stories to share their stories, and we invite everybody who's watching live to drop comments or questions and we'll get to those as well. So we're so happy to see everybody. And again, welcome to Pet Chat. For those of you who are just tuning in for the first time ever, that's Facebook Live, instagram Live, x Video or Twitter Video Live and audio. So welcome to everybody. Oh, you've got Bernoulli there. Chris has Bernoulli on live.
Speaker 3:I do because he's giving you a big shout out and I was going to show blanket wars oh, blanket wars were happening blanket wars potentially could have been happening and the answer is no yeah, no, it's like couch wars, but it's blanket wars. So I just was doing a little bit of a distraction.
Speaker 2:You're just tuning in to Pet Chat. Chris and I we start with a game, then we share a couple stories about what's happening in our life and then we get to questions, comments and stories from the audience. And I think, chris, you better start with your big story, because I posted it on Twitter and some people are very concerned with your big story because I posted it on Twitter and some people are very concerned and I know you are concerned, so go ahead.
Speaker 3:I don't know where to start with this story, jason.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 3:I do. It's very emotional for me, so I'm going to start with once upon a time. It was this morning and Jason woke up with a migraine, and that's okay, but it is quite debilitating for you when you get those.
Speaker 2:I didn't think I was going to be able to do the show today, but anyways, but you did, yeah.
Speaker 3:Anyway, I gave you this cool mask. You look like Daredevil, it was amazing. It was good I took some pictures of you in it.
Speaker 2:Thank you.
Speaker 3:Did you post pictures of you in it?
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 3:I guess I can, but I'll post it on the paw pack, that's like more private. There you go, anyway. So then Jason's Chris, I don't think I can do puppy play with Bernoulli, can you go by yourself? And I said, oh yeah, absolutely I can go by myself. That's no big deal, like I've taken Bunsen by himself, I've taken Beaker by herself, just that, if one adult you have one dog, so the other dogs couldn't have come. But then we've also just been enjoying having Bernoulli there by himself. Yeah, before I left, jason said it's good for Bernoulli because he gets time to play, but it's also good for content, so make sure you get lots of content.
Speaker 1:I said okay, bernoulli puppy.
Speaker 2:I just have to get him hold on okay, we're doing this live and Bernoulli is normally by the, by Chris, but he's moved. Oh, you're back, he's fine okay.
Speaker 3:So those were the words. Make sure you get lots of content. Then I looked outside and I had been outside because I had been taking the dogs out this morning by myself because Jason was sick. And I'm like, oh, when we go for the play it's an hour outside and it looked so I'm like if I wear jeans then it doesn't matter. And then I wore my tank top and then I had a hoodie. It was 27 degrees today, not good weather for a jeans, not good weather for A jeans, not good weather for B a hoodie. And to do the quick math, times by 9, divide by 5, and add 32. It's 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Here I am wearing hot pants and hot Like. I was a little bit warm, but I don't mind being warm, it's okay.
Speaker 3:So here we go, we all get out of the car. Bernoulli and I were ready to go, and then I'm realizing, oh, it's going to be hot, no big deal, stand in the shade, walk around. There's nothing worse than standing there and being cold. So then we played in the big area with the big dogs, and so he saw his friends from play, from daycare, so he saw the little dogs that he likes, and then he played with some bigger dogs that he likes and it was a really great time. And then what we do is they do a trade. The little dogs go into the pond area and then trade. And then the big dogs go like hey, bernoulli, do you want to go into the big area? Because that's good to explore Lots of smells. Great Away we go, everything's awesome. And then there's this dog whose owner he was talking to me. He's like yeah, I know, that's bernoulli, I follow you guys on instagram.
Speaker 2:I said oh, that's so cute, that's so weird so weird and like, yeah, this bernoulli is.
Speaker 3:Well, I know bernoulli. And then they're asking how many maulings are there today? And they know the whole drill. But his dog was swimming in a life jacket and so that's fine, no problem. Like bernoulli seen beaker swim in the beaver pond, he doesn't go in, but then. So then I'm recording because you know what remember, remember earlier on at the beginning of the story, make sure you get lots of content. So I'm holding the camera. Bernoulli goes into the water and I'm like that's no problem, he's just gonna go up to his paws and he's done it before, like he's done that before, um, and like no big deal, then uh, just he's doing something, hold on.
Speaker 2:Chris has all the dogs upstairs and I'm in our recording studio.
Speaker 3:So it's a little bit tougher for her, sorry. So then, what happened is you saw it in the video he goes in and he's like swimming, but he's not swimming, he is non-swimming, and so I'm calling him back. I'm like hey, bernoulli, come back. And you've seen the video? If you've seen the video. If you haven't, then please watch the video.
Speaker 3:And so remember, I'm wearing jeans and a hoodie that I have now tied around my waist that I have to get off. So I'm like split second decision. I'm like no, I'm going in, I'm going in. And so I had to take my hoodie off my waist. I'm trying to untie it. It's not working. I just take it off.
Speaker 3:And then I'm up to my hips in my jeans, pulling Bernoulli out of the water because he was non-swimming, like the minute he turned around and did that shake of his head and then wasn't paddling. I'm like going in, and I went in and the dad who was like, oh, I watched you on Instagram. He's like, oh, I'm wearing shorts, I could have gone in for you. I was like okay, it's okay, I don't mind being wet all the way up to my hips. I've done it before, I've done it in the beaver pond, but that day I was wearing shorts, but yeah, no.
Speaker 3:So I'm now like for at least half an hour wearing like wet socks, wet jeans, wet Bernoulli. And then people are like, oh, he's not so fluffy, he's so skinny when he's wet. I'm like, yes, he is. But funny because last time we went I said, hey, should we bring in our PFD? And you're, jason said no, bernoulli won't go in the water. I didn't bring in the PFD and alas, and alack, bernoulli went in the water and so I just I didn't bring in the PFD and alas, and alack, bernoulli went in the water, and so I just I don't know if I should have done sooner Like I thought he was going to come back. There was that like minute, like that angst of no, I'm going in. And I got him and he's just fine, he's a good little boy.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that would. There was a couple of comments of people wondering I mean, you mean you have to let a dog try, right? And he looked like he was going to get back to shore. And then I could see that you're like, as soon as he started to not paddle anymore, you're like time to go get him. Time to go get him, anyways.
Speaker 3:In my jeans.
Speaker 2:Yeah, anyways, he's totally fine and he was at no risk.
Speaker 3:He's totally fine, because right after you were talking to him and he was happy as a clam, happy as a clam little boy, and then he was like, had the zoomies cause he was all wet. But it was exactly like our beaver pond where you walk in and then you go right down. It was deep very quickly. It was only a little bit of shore there.
Speaker 2:Yeah's probably what caught him. Yeah, and like it's if, if Bernoulli did have struggles, he's learned a lesson that maybe he shouldn't do that again. And we learned a lesson that if he's near the water like that, we probably need to have him a pf, him in a pfd until he gets a little strong we're always safe on safe.
Speaker 3:We're always like safe on around the water always yeah, so I posted the video.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I posted it on the video on Twitter and I think it'll let everybody. If you're taking a puppy swimming, I let the video be a cautionary tale and I feel bad. I wasn't there but I still was suffering from a migraine when Chris had to leave for puppy school. So we have some comments about that. We'll get to the comments in a second. So real quick, I'll share my story and then we'll get to community sharing and answering questions that folks have typed up.
Speaker 2:This week we did a big mountain hike with adam and elise and all three dogs. We went to a hike called ptarmigan cirque. We've done it before and it's one of my favorite hikes I've ever been on. It's short enough that we were reasonably sure that Bernoulli could do it. Like Bernoulli, he's four months old, so he's not a little baby puppy, but he's still a puppy and we had to be careful we didn't pick something that was outrageously long. And Tarmagan Cirque is cool, that's the other thing. Like as you go up, like it's pretty, you have to drive a ways up in elevation to get before you start, and we knew it wasn't going to be a hot hike because you're in the trees and then when you get to the Cirque, which is like this open um Canyon, uh, it's quite cool and anyway. So Bernoulli did great.
Speaker 2:Bunsen did great for an old guy. He's been on rest because we were worried about his face muscles in early June and July so we didn't really do push him much to do a lot of stuff because we were keeping him just in case it was something serious. So he's maybe a little bit out of shape but he did perfectly fine. It was like he did no worse this time than he did when he was two and Beaker got to go with Adam and they took off like a rocket because beaker's in crazy good shape. She was not even tired by the time we got up there, whereas bernoulli and bunsen were like it's time to take a break. So we got some really sweet shots of them.
Speaker 2:You've seen that on social media and there's a lot more water up there from the snow runoff, that there's a waterfall like a mini waterfall. It wasn't like an epic waterfall or anything like that, but it was easily three to four times bigger than the last time we were up and so much of it had turned into a creek it was impassable unless you went like a different way to go around this ridge and we decided against it. So anyways, that was a really fun hike. That's my story of the week, and I was just really impressed with everybody. It's a hard hike, elevation wise, and everybody got up to the top. We had a little break, wonderful views way up near the top of the mountain, and then we came back down again and all of the dogs slept like logs all the way home. So it's pretty, pretty special. We're that close to the rockies so it's only a couple hours to get there and then usually another half an hour to find the trailhead. Yeah, so that's my story of the week.
Speaker 3:And nobody had to get left behind to get eaten by bears.
Speaker 2:I don't know, especially me. Nobody's going to leave you behind to get eaten by bears.
Speaker 3:Nobody's going to leave you behind to get eaten by bears. Okay, so I was following the map on all trails to get there and Jason and I had looked for a ptarmigan circ before, but I was looking for another circ that someone had commented that they went to. We went to our Thuza circ. I'm like, oh, I'm going to try that. So I looked that up on all trails and it took us to the same dead end that we went to two years ago. So the map was wrong. And Jason was like Chris, I knew we weren't supposed to turn there. And I'm like I don't know. And he's like did you squish out, squish in on the map? I'm like Jason, I'm so direct, directionally challenged I have no idea where I am. I cannot figure this out.
Speaker 3:I cannot squish, squish, squish, and then there's no service, like the no service for miles kilometers, yeah and so then I'm like, maybe just leave me here, I'll get out and let you can let the bears eat me. Jesus, no, adams, that's what I'm gonna do. And annalise is like yeah, whenever I make a mistake, I'm gonna say you can let me out and let the bears eat me so it's new.
Speaker 2:It was fine. We were very close to tarmigan cirque, so we just did that instead.
Speaker 3:It was a wonderful day and had I used apple maps because j Jason said no, use Google Maps. Google Maps is more accurate.
Speaker 2:I feel like a lot of the issues are my fault in Pet Chat today. Get content and use Google Maps.
Speaker 3:Anyway. So Arethusa Cirque is just like one minute further down the road than tarmac and cirque, so we might try it again I would love to try that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I love those cirque hikes there. It's a beautiful. The canon, ask us, is really pretty. Yeah, it's about what? An hour from canmore and banff, something like that? Yeah, about an hour, it's just, it's in the rockies, it's just in a different direction yeah not as busy, sorry go ahead, not as busy.
Speaker 3:And then it's famous for the larches, actually. So if we go in September we'll see the beautiful larches.
Speaker 2:I would like to see that. Yeah, okay, I think we're done with our sharing. We're going to move to community sharing now and answer some questions. So I'm going to go back through the comments and Instagram and Facebook and, chris, maybe you can check Twitter if you'd like to be a speaker or if you have your own story or comment or question, you can type it up now. Speakers on audio just request the mic and then we'll get you up on the stage. But I'm going to. I'm going to go back through Instagram, chris, cause some people had some comments and questions there first, because some people had some comments and questions there first. So, yeah, so one is Lass.
Speaker 2:Floro Combustibles asks my dog growls at my husband every time my husband enters our room. Any advice? My husband is super sweet to him. I don't understand. Because we're not pet trainers, I'm not super comfortable asking like behavioral, like answering behavioral questions. We'll see if we can get a pet trainer back on our show and because I would feel more confident and more, I would just be more comfortable having them answer that question. But it does sound a little bit like resource guarding, so you could research resource guarding.
Speaker 2:Somebody had a comment on Instagram. Kellyanne09 is barking at nothing. I called them in. Okay, something just telling us. But how can I stop my cat from asking me to go outside so often? I'm not sure if you can stop a cat from doing that, because a lot of cats want to be outside. There, one researcher, dr Michael I forget their full name, anyways, I've interviewed her for the science podcast. She in her research. She says cats are more like captive animals, so they do want to get outside and, of course, it's way safer for them to be inside, and inside cats are the best. So she just says it increased their enrichment inside the house or get a catio for them to go outside into. So those are two suggestions for that.
Speaker 2:Going through Instagram with some people are saying hello, yikes, migraines aren't any fun. Yet Tell me about it. This morning was brutal. It's really rough. Somebody says I use maps but it's from the 1800s, so it probably wouldn't work. Probably not. Yeah, probably not. You're right. Yeah, probably not, you're right. And then we have some questions and comments from Facebook. Jennifer just says wet jeans are the worst, and Kelly's asking if your phone is okay.
Speaker 3:Oh, my phone is just fine. It was in my back pocket. Jason probably was hoping that it would be destroyed.
Speaker 2:I was. That was my first thought is I hope it was wrecked.
Speaker 3:Because my phone is already broken, I can't call out and I can't answer. So anytime anybody calls me, I have to be like Dick Tracy and talk on my Apple Watch. You need to get a new phone, and anyway. So Siri wants to talk to me. So sad, so sad, anyway. So that's what's going on in our life right now. With my phone so jason's late, and then I thought maybe it was wrecked because I was driving away, and so I had parked at the end of the driveway and like I was trying to make a call on my watch and it said no service. So I'm like, oh no, like either the chip has moved or something or maybe my phone is done, cause that's happened to me before where it was like all gone.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you need to just get. You just need to use the new phone that you're you can use. That's the plan, yeah.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's the plan. Anyway, my phone is fine. Jason's phone is also fine, because I have to use two phones. My phone has no space on it and jason's phone is where all the videos upload, so then he can access them. When I create content, then it's magic content that just shows up on his device yeah, it's cool.
Speaker 2:I'm like, oh, I need some videos to make a reel and then poof, some videos show up and I'm like great, awesome, all right. So thanks for the comments and, of course, keep making comments. If you're watching us live, type up a story and, if you'd like, and I can read that, if you want to share something about your pets, but we will go to audio and I think snickerdoodle is first and then paula chris. You must have brought them up.
Speaker 3:Thank you for that I did not, I did.
Speaker 2:Go ahead Snickerdoodle.
Speaker 4:You're up first. Hi everybody, I just have a very quick question watching the Norbert videos, does he, she ever sleep?
Speaker 2:Do you want to answer that, or do you want me to Chris?
Speaker 3:You go ahead, Jay.
Speaker 2:Okay, based on the evidence from our trail cams, norbert works at night and dawn and I've pieced together all of the other timestamps and he, norbert, does not work past dawn, eight o'clock in the morning, nine o'clock in the morning is the latest he's out. So those are the videos where there's light. So you've probably seen him where it looks like it's a. It looks like it's a night vision camera and that's at during the night, at random nighttime hours 11 pm, two o'clock in the morning, like random nighttime hours. But there's no evidence of him working past nine till dark, like not, so he probably sleeps during that point oh okay, I was just curious about that.
Speaker 4:That's all I wanted to know. Everybody have a good weekend.
Speaker 2:I'm glad chris and bernoulli and everybody are fine yeah, chris did come home and she was pretty emotional about it. So yeah, if you watch the video and people are commenting oh that's scary, it. Chris was scared by it. So yeah, it was and because I'm alive because I'm a lifeguard, or it was a lifeguard. I was like, oh, he's fine because I've rescued people like that and they've been totally fine. So he just looked like a non-swimmer.
Speaker 3:Before you go get them, go ahead yeah, I was just gonna say at the time scooping him, making the decision, getting him like the adrenaline's going and making sure that he's safe, and then the who come down. Time came later for me, where I didn't even know if I wanted to watch the video because it was already firmly imprinted on my mind.
Speaker 4:No, that is traumatizing. Yeah, anyway, I'm glad it all worked out fine for everyone thanks, and thank you for asking about norbert.
Speaker 2:Uh, we love that beaver. I got some really good he. We got some really good footage this week.
Speaker 4:It was in the latest video, so the one video I was watching it the with the light. It looked like it was in the middle of the day and then there he is at night. So I'm thinking when does he sleep, if at all?
Speaker 2:it is puzzling, yeah, but it would be dawn, yeah or sorry, yeah yeah, dawn, not dusk, but dawn yeah okay, good, thank you.
Speaker 4:So everybody have a good weekend you too.
Speaker 2:Bye for now, thank you. All right, we'll go to paula and then we'll look at some of the comments that people have put on the other platforms.
Speaker 7:Hey, paula hey, how's everybody tonight? Hi Chris, hi Jason. I'm glad you're feeling better, jason, and sorry, chris, about your kerplunk in the pond. Been there, done that? I had dogs that used to fall in the pool going after a ball and I'd have to go in fully clothed to rescue them. But anyway, tixie's doing good.
Speaker 7:But I just the first tell what's going on with her. She finished her puppy training school and the last class was an agility class and she did really well in the first run. But the second time she was on my right side so she got a little bit confused and she didn't want to go up the big climb that they made like this little mountain out of like steps. I dug up all of old Olive's agility that we were going to do with her and I in fact I never used it and I set it up in the backyard. So we're slowly trying to get trixie interested in agility. So it's been fun to see her going through the tunnels and saying jump and she's very eager to learn. But I, it'll be a new adventure for her for sure. But we're going to try to do that first and then maybe see if we can get her in some beginner agility and see if she really likes it. But we have to be careful, because my husband is daddy fave and it's not Olive for me with Trixie, no way.
Speaker 7:And I was having a little bit of behavior problems. I feel for that lady. I'm not an expert but I'll give you some tips because I'm going through this with her. She is what they call possessive aggression. She thinks she's married to David, my husband. She thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread and I'm going to take him away. If I'm upstairs for a while and come back down and she's sitting on the couch she pops her head up and gives me this eagle stare and we know the signs now because she'll not growl, but she'll just. She doesn't like me and she'll come running after me. It's funny, but it's not funny.
Speaker 7:We have to control and we tell her David goes no, and you put her in her little crate and then we give her a timeout and then she's always OK. But check with your vet because sometimes it can be a brain thing and balance too. And poor Trixie's on Prozac, but it's helping. And she's also on CBD oil. This is all vet recommended but it helps calm her down because there's episodes that she has and she can be a snort. All I can say is have. If it's the husband that your dog is being aggressive toward, have him feed the dog, him or her. Have him do the feeding, have them, give them treats. Good tired dog is a good dog, so do outside stuff, play ball and be out of the picture a little bit. That dog be able to trust him instead of you being there.
Speaker 7:Because, like I said, having that problem with Trixie and it's been a battle and I think we're going to probably sooner or later maybe try a behaviorist, because you know we don't really know. We're trying to look at YouTube and there's a lot of stuff out there and there's a lot of people that are experts out there and they do give you some suggestions. So that's the best thing I could give for advice. So I hope that helps her and but I feel her pain. Like I said, trixie's no olive and then she'll be like 180 the next time. She knows I'm upset and she comes over with her head down and then she's licking my face. I'm like really Two minutes ago you wanted to bite my head off. You know it's like go figure, but anyway, but that's all I can say and I hope she has good luck. Have a good week everybody. I know Tracy came and left it was nice seeing her and Donna too. I hope she's settling in California and have a good week everybody.
Speaker 2:Paula, thank you for the advice there and, of course, the stories. I did see your post with the agility stuff and that's very adorable. We had Beaker and agility and she did so good at it, but there was only the one course and I think she did it and that was the end of it and maybe that's something we can revisit in the winter with beaker, because she did so good at it yeah, there's agility one, two and three.
Speaker 3:Oh, ok, so Beaker did agility one, so there are more courses.
Speaker 2:OK, I thought oh yeah.
Speaker 7:If she really likes it guys, go for it, because the interest and the food drive is. That's crucial and she'd probably be very quick because she's she's a smaller golden, so she'd be really good at it. I know she would and Trixie loves it. I think she, when she gets the course, I think she'll be really.
Speaker 2:She just needs a little bit more confidence, but she'll get there. Yeah, the last there's a video that I sometimes post. Beaker was racing the actual agility dog and Beaker beat the agility dog at the course, which was pretty cool. So yeah, beaker is pretty streamlined. She's built like an arrow that the person with the comment from Instagram says thank you. They said thank you to that. Okay, a couple more comments from the other places. Then we'll go to a couple more speakers on audio. Kelly says I'm glad Bernoulli is okay, that must've been scary. Blondie at YYC says Chris did amazing, I was a lifeguard also. Yc says Chris did amazing, I was a lifeguard also. And then TK was wondering are the road signs in Canada in kilometers? And they are. Yeah, all of our road signs signs are in kilometers and kilometers an hour. A quick conversion is 60 miles per hour is roughly a hundred kilometers an hour Roughly. It's pretty close.
Speaker 3:Okay, that's the velocity or speed speed, speed the road signs themselves are the distance in is in kilometers as well yeah, and how long have they been that way, jason?
Speaker 2:I don't know as long as I've been alive as long as I've been alive too, I think yeah, I've only known metric, but we canadians do weird stuff, like we weigh ourself in pounds, that's something, and then we measure stuff in inches, which is weird, and measurement for baking is in cups, but you can convert it to millimeters and milliliters if you'd like, and kilograms about 46 years ago 46? Yeah, maybe when I was yeah, baby, that was a bye-bye. Okay, we'll go to ann and then donna's after ann.
Speaker 5:I believe no yeah and go ahead and then yeah, hi, I hope all is well and I'm glad brunette newly came out of it okay, and I'm sorry you got so wet, chris. It's okay, it's just clothes, that's true, the dog is much more important.
Speaker 3:Squishy ride home in my gushy pants. It was totally fine.
Speaker 5:Yes, it's getting them off. That's the hard part. I just wanted to have a shout out to my dog, millie. She has been my detective this week and she found a critter in my wall. What? And yeah, she kept going to the same place in the dining, in the dining room, and she would bark at the wall. Then she'd go outside and bark at the corresponding space and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was because I didn't see what I should have recognized. So I called my pest man, and I have a rat or two in my walls.
Speaker 2:Oh my goodness.
Speaker 5:Yeah, so we're going to be mitigating this little circumstance, but thanks to Millie the dog and her stick-to-itiveness, we're going to be mitigating this little circumstance, but thanks to Millie the dog and her stick-to-itiveness, I will not have dead rats in my house. So that is a good thing.
Speaker 3:Dead rodents in the walls not a good idea. No, no, no no I posted Millie into the nest, and then I also saw that you have.
Speaker 5:Oh, thank you.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and I also. Millie's so cute, but I also saw that you have Millie with your stuffed ginger kitty. So I put that in there too, in the nest. Oh, thanks.
Speaker 2:Chris Aw Millie's adorable.
Speaker 5:She is, she is. She's a third German Shepherd and 67% super mutt. She's got a little bit of everything in her and you can certainly tell. So thank you, that's all I had I had to say, and have a great rest of your weekend and feel bad, or Jay.
Speaker 2:I'm on the mend, usually a day after my migraine. I'm out of sorts. So, like I'm, I have a little bit of brain fog right now and I feel like heavy, like my muscles feel heavy. So, that's like a side effect of the migraines. I get that, just incapacitate me.
Speaker 5:Oh my gosh, that's horrible.
Speaker 2:It happens occasionally, but everybody has things that goes wrong, so I can't complain too much.
Speaker 5:That's true, thank you.
Speaker 2:All right, thanks for popping up.
Speaker 5:Sure Bye-bye.
Speaker 2:Talk later, ann. Thank you, okay, I think Susan was ahead of Donna, so we'll go to Susan and then Donna Go ahead, susan.
Speaker 1:Hi, can you hear me?
Speaker 2:You bet.
Speaker 1:Okay, I've been having some in and out with the sound. I just wanted to thank you guys for doing the Olympic things, theme things. That was really fun this week and last week. And also, if anybody else follows Be More Bob in the UK. Also, if anybody else follows Be More Bob in the UK, his mom owns a pet supply place and they were doing Pawlympics today too and that's just been so much fun and it just brings so much joy and I just really want to thank you guys for that.
Speaker 2:Oh, it's been fun. It was fun. I think I forgot to post the last two events. Are the olympics still going? They aren't they for another day or two?
Speaker 2:yeah, they go till tomorrow yeah, I should post we have the paralympics after that yeah, I'll post the rest of the events. Susan, thanks for that reminder. There was two more I needed to post. I think I forgot about it. I wasn't doing anything last night or this morning, so I have my brain as was scrambled from my great, so I'm a little off my game for content. But thank you, yeah, that's fun. Okay, we'll go to Donna. Go ahead, donna.
Speaker 6:Hey y'all. So you're allowed to be off your game, jason, I'm just saying it's allowed. You can't do it 24, seven a day, otherwise that makes you superhuman and Ryan Reynolds needs to play you in a movie.
Speaker 2:so you'd have to gain. You'd have to gain a little bit of weight, donna.
Speaker 6:I think a few inches too. He's not as tall as you that's true.
Speaker 2:That's true.
Speaker 6:I am quite a bit taller than him he, he is Canada's favorite son, so he cause you're our favorite son. Any, anyways, I went through my first earthquake.
Speaker 6:I got here four days later shaky. So I want to thank all of your followers who follow me or respond to me when I post stuff, cause they gave me some great tips. So I've got that down and old Kathy hanging out in the chat man, it was midnight in Minnesota and she knew and texted me right away, like you, ok, and I was like what are you talking about? And then all of a sudden shaky. So thank you, kathy, for checking on me.
Speaker 6:Callie was not a fan. I think she would rather have the tornado klaxons than that. So she stood straight up on the bed and growled viciously. But she's going to be happy because I found a place to live. So we're going to be moving into that out of the hotel September 1st. Thank you, paula, for hoping I'm getting settled. I am getting settled and I am slacking. I suck, but I owe you guys some updates on some food safety issues. But very famous lunch meat Boar's Head. Those who use Boar's Head really bad right now for listeria. There is a coffee brand right now and I this is my like bob barker who used to say spay and neuter your pets, I'm gonna say wash your fruits and vegetables.
Speaker 2:that's it for me so as somebody who's never experienced an earthquake and this is your first time experiencing one could describe it. I would love to hear you you describe it so I'm on the third floor in the hotel.
Speaker 6:I'm not like in a high rise or anything, so it's only four stories here and there is was a concert kind of catty corner to me in the arena across the street. So at first I thought when people drive and we all live out in the country, but like strong base, oh yeah, that can shake your windows yeah or sonic boom.
Speaker 6:So it started like that. But then all of a sudden the whole bed swayed. I've the room shook. I heard a painting fall off in the little living room of my hotel room. My water bottle fell off, but I think Callie knew before I did, because she stood straight up like she was sound asleep, snoring, and stood straight up and started growling and then shake.
Speaker 6:And I was on the phone with the person who hired me to bring me out here. We were texting and I said, hey, I think we just had an earthquake. And she goes Donna, I don't feel anything. I'm like I don't know, my room shook violently and she's about 10 minutes, like probably about eight miles, from where I'm at, and she didn't feel it. But then at seven o'clock in the morning she goes. Sure, it was an earthquake. I was like, yeah, I know, so it wasn't. Like, on the grand scheme of things it wasn't huge. I think it was a 5.4. But to me I guess it would feel, if you guys are on the top floor of your house and it's really high wind, like 60 to 70 mile an hour winds, that kind of shake you.
Speaker 6:That's what it felt like okay I don't know if that's a good description, but I I was like, uh, what do I do? Is there going to be aftershocks? And then I saw the post on twitter telling me to download the, the shake app. There's three different apps um, which was great advice. And uh, I can't remember who said I think it was blue. Who said, hey, have uh shoes by your bed, but not flip-flops, because there could be broken glass stuff like that. Kathy advised me to have cash because atms break and that's the only way you can pay for stuff.
Speaker 6:So I I'm like man, I feel like I'm getting ready for the apocalypse. I wasn't a doomsday prepper, but I already had bottled water and a generator. It's just not here yet. The generator, it's still in Texas. So yeah, it was definitely different. I'm sure animals know it's coming before we do because they're so intuitive. But yeah, it's surprising, it's different, like with tornadoes or storms or hurricanes. You have advanced warning. Hurricanes, you definitely do, but tornadoes, you have some warning, or the sirens go off, hey, seek shelter. I was just chilling watching the olympics and all of a sudden it's boom, wham, it's, it just happens. So it was different. I, I was like I can add that to my natural disaster list I know oh, and then I'm very curious.
Speaker 3:I'm very curious, donna, you describe the concert being catty corner to you. Is that something that Americans say, cause we say kitty corner I think I hear I say kitty corner or catty corner.
Speaker 6:I've heard it both ways. I think it's in the States when somebody says pecan or pecan ketchup and that's a whole fight. Yeah, I'm used to y'all saying cats up or pasta instead of pasta. So there's a few things. There's a few things you guys say, but I think in the states there's like a war of how you say pecan or pecan, so that can get somebody going. But I, I do. I would be remiss in not mentioning there's a follower of golden ratio 4 who also followed you guys, who just passed away.
Speaker 1:Oh.
Speaker 6:Unexpectedly, Her name was Susan. She's the one who used to have the. Is this CB or Vudes?
Speaker 2:Oh, okay, yes, I know that account.
Speaker 6:Yeah, so she recently passed away. I know there's cards going around the center of her house because nobody knows how to get in touch with her family, but thought y'all should know too.
Speaker 2:Thanks, Donna.
Speaker 6:It's good to know, even though it's sad news 100%, but she was a bright spot on Twitter and thank you for the Olympics with the dogs. I'd like to see some cat ones to have catastrophes no pun or pun intended, but with the Paralympics coming up, it'd be fun to see the parapups. I think, of the herd with those guys.
Speaker 2:Yeah, or tripods and differently abled dogs yeah.
Speaker 6:A hundred percent. But great job y'all.
Speaker 2:Thanks Donna. Thanks Donna. Okay, before we go to our next speaker on audio, there's a couple of comments I just want to get to on the folks who are watching live. So MC Murray, EMC Murray, sorry, emc Murray on Instagram, native Californian here who lived through the 1989 earthquake, says tornadoes are way scarier. So there you go, going back up. Somebody says hi, hello from Ohio. Hrm 1280 says animals are so in tuned. And EMC Murray also says animals totally know before. Yeah, we broke down a study on the science podcast that seemed to show that some animals were able to predict earthquakes beforehand, but it's inconclusive. Like it's really hard to have us do a study about that, because you'd have to know when an earthquake's going to happen. So so just ahead, just thought I'd mention that. A couple other comments. Diane asks from Facebook does Bernoulli like hiking so far? How far can he go? Our puppy would go two hours in and around that age and then lie down. What do you think, chris? Does Bernoulli like hiking?
Speaker 3:I think he likes hiking. He's a go-go and Ptarmigan Circus about an hour and a half, but that one was straight up. That was pushing the limits for newly, I think, or a puppy's capability, but he loved it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and what do you think his total time he could do it for?
Speaker 3:I don't know. That was an hour and a half. We could have done like the Arthusa if we had driven down the road for another minute and they have a long one in the shortcut. So I think we'll do the shortcut next time just to build up the capacity. But I don't know. We just go and have fun and like. Grotto Canyon would have been a good one, but it was too treacherous right at the start with that rock that was like as slippery as ice and so we didn't want to chance that with them.
Speaker 3:So what I liked about what we've done so far is I guess we hadn't done white goat trail. That was a new one. So what I've liked about the ones that we have done that we know what we to what to expect. So with ptarmigan circ we knew it was going to be a hook getting up there, but then it was going to level out and be okay, yeah. But then the white goat had that sketch which was like super sketch, but he didn't find on that too you bet.
Speaker 2:Then kelly says this is a question for donna, since you're still up here are panera's chocolate chip cookies still a no-go? I'm not, I don't know about that. Maybe, donna, you could answer that.
Speaker 6:So they did a massive recall on that. You can have them. I would just, when you get them at Panera, I would just double check that they got rid of it. It doesn't hurt to ask and usually most managers or staff members are like yeah, we got rid of it. They get pissy. But it's better safe to ask than be sorry. But I know when we get them in a restaurant. When there's a food recall or something of that nature, if you are in a restaurant it is mandatory you throw it out ASAP and the food regulatory compliances in whatever district you are in will hunt you down. So you're supposed to get rebates on whatever that is. But yeah, it's safe to eat Panera cookies now.
Speaker 2:Okay, thanks, donna, and then, yeah, so that's about it there.
Speaker 2:All right, so we're going to start wrapping up the show. Any other comments or questions from the audience? Go for it. Oh, dog plant love says. Also, let's remember all the dogs that help after earthquakes. Incredible heroes yeah, a lot of them. They the search and rescue dogs are pretty amazing, so that's a great comment from Instagram. Dogs are pretty amazing, so that's a great comment from instagram.
Speaker 2:Any comments on audio? Chris, like in audio there? Oh, you're not on, you're not there. Sorry, I'll look.
Speaker 2:I just didn't want to make sure we didn't miss anything. Tracy, who always comes to our show to speak, just had, as a comment, not much to report will be a month without ricky on friday. Very sad, and we're so, very sorry that you lost ricky going to the cat cafe before work that day to pet and play with the cats. Taking it day by day. Yeah, that's true, that's the best way to get through grief. Steve on twitter audio or twitter spaces says you'll get used to those after a while. Donna, I lived in california and a 5.5 won't even catch your attention. K Kathy L says we didn't feel anything and we're 30 miles from Donna, but Bianca says. I don't mean to be rude to everyone, but the Kahoot challenge just isn't as intense when you were not trying to beat Chris. So great comments everybody.
Speaker 2:Okay, we have a couple announcements before we wrap up. I'm going to share my screen and I'll we'll make a post, but everybody who's listening where you know where to find the link in our profile. So I'm just going to share my screen. So we're really excited. Chris and I've been working hard on a couple things this summer. The 2025 calendars are ready for pre-sale. You can head to our website at bunsenburnerbmdcom. Our community has already seen them and our different tiers some of the tiers get a discount on everything that we do. So if you want to head to our website, this is the start of the presale for the calendars, which will go for about two weeks.
Speaker 2:We do about two or three things a year. This is one of our big things and I have to say the calendar that we put together is my favorite Bernoulli's in it. So we've got Bernoulli in the calendar and there's a couple different packs that we've put together. You can get just the single calendar. You can get the calendar with the calendar stickers that a lot of people liked from last year. There's a three calendar pack for a deal. There's the mega pack, and then I made a.
Speaker 2:A lot of people were asking just like when we did with the book, could they buy a calendar for somebody that maybe can't afford one? And there is a donation option on the website within the calendar group. So if you click on um the view more, when you get there, you'll be able to see there's an option to donate a calendar if you so choose. And reminder this is a pre-sale, so you're not going to get them right away about a month, um, until you get them. Uh, but it's the best deal right now and Chris and I were able to drop the price on the calendar a bit to help everybody out, cause I know money is tight and inflation's bad, so we were able to negotiate a better price on the calendar for the same quality for everybody. So I think it's it's a really good deal for the how awesome the calendar is and Chris, you worked really hard on some of the dates, right Like it's got a lot of really fun dates and holidays on it.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so I did the typical.
Speaker 3:We're Canadian, so the our Canadian holidays are on there and then important United States holidays are on there, and then Anzac Day is there, and then I added the bank holidays from the UK, honoring our global reach, definitely put the Christian holidays on there, but also Muslim holidays on there, and other Orthodox or Jewish holidays are also on there. So it's hopefully an inclusive calendar. That it has been in the past, so that's not new, but the new things are. I added the moon cycles, so that was a comment that people wanted, so I added those. But then I also added like some fun days more than last year. So of course there's Ginger Squatch Day, and Bernoulli's birthday is new, and then of course Bunsen, ginger Squatch Day and Bernoulli's birthday is new, and then of course Bunsen and Beaker their birthdays, but then also things like Pink Shirt Day and World Braille Day and those kinds of things.
Speaker 2:You won't find a more inclusive calendar than our calendar. You did a great job on it, Chris.
Speaker 3:Thanks.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so that's starting. For the next two weeks I'll be co-auditing our newsletter and I'll be talking about it more, but I haven't actually posted about this. So if you're watching live or listening, you get first chance at any of the pre-sale and once we sell out like we're only getting so many and when we sell out, if you get the mega pack the first, I think 30 or 40 people who get the mega pack get one of our bags for free. So that's like an early. I know I didn't tell Chris about this, but anyways, that's, that's in the then, once we're out of those, we're out of those. If you act quick on the mega pack, you get some cool stuff and the other thing.
Speaker 3:I want those bags are good.
Speaker 2:Those bags are good. They're very good. They're super indestructible actually not, they're not indestructible, but they're pretty robust they are robust, they can.
Speaker 3:I can carry my computer bag and all my school stuff in it back and forth to school. You know the marking that, uh, just comes for a ride home, yeah, and then goes back for a ride to school.
Speaker 2:That marking, yeah yeah, and then I do want to give a shout out and mention to everybody that we have chris and I have a podcast called the science podcast and I know folks who are watching listening. You probably know about this, but our audience has greatly expanded on meta. We are. We have tons more folks following us now on Instagram and Facebook, so it's going to take a bit to tell everybody that we do have this awesome science show, this podcast, where we mix together topical science news and science that's going on with our pets, with really awesome interviews, and it's on every single thing that you could think of for where to listen to it.
Speaker 2:So if you are an Apple person, you can listen on Apple. It's got Spotify, amazon Music, overcast. Our favorite place is Good Pods, because Good Pods has been really good to us and if I click on Apple, you can see. I want to thank everybody who's been rating us on Apple. We have like over 118 ratings and our average rating is 4.9, which is just spectacular. So thank you so much for everybody who listens to the Science Podcast. Really appreciate you guys. Thank you so much for everybody who listens to the science podcast. Really appreciate you guys. And if that is the easiest way to support us at $0, because our podcast is free and it always will be free. So I just wanted to give a shout out to that and it's been way more fun doing it with you, chris. I think it's a way better show. So thank you for agreeing to do that, chris.
Speaker 3:No problem, I love hanging out with you and spending time with you, and whether we're hanging out at home or you're in the basement and we're talking digitally, we're still hanging out. You're my best friend and you've always been my best friend, so love it. Yeah, it's been great.
Speaker 2:As we wrap up, thank you for coming to our show. Thanks for coming to Pet Chat. We're here every week, usually. We'll be back next week. Do check out bark and beyond. Think about listening to the science podcast. And again, if you need a calendar, if you want a calendar or if you want to support us, think about picking up the bunsen and beaker and bernoulli 2025 calendar. That pre-sale has started on our website. We would love your support there. Oh, and if you're a Paw Pack member of the Top Dog tier or the Teen tier, check for your discount code in the community. And if you want to become a member of the Paw Pack, then check for some of our posts that tell you where to go. Okay, chris, anything else to add?
Speaker 3:No, but I can get Ginger to show everybody, because everybody loves Ginger.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, show and tell, so you can stick around for show and tell if you'd like there she is there she is Totally not mauled.
Speaker 1:Totally healthy good girl yeah.
Speaker 2:When we came in from the walk today, bernoulli was really rambunctious and, going away from the rambunctious puppy Ginger, walked right up to him and put her tail right in his face, turned around and rubbed her tail in his face. Guess what Bernoulli did Bit her tail. And then she's like no, that's not supposed to happen. And then Bernoulli stopped that and tail. And then she's like no, that's not supposed to happen. And then I'm like Bernoulli stopped that and he did so. He's like he's getting better. But I mean, if you put your tail, which looks like a chew toy, in a puppy's face, he's going to bite it. So that's it.
