The Science Pawdcast
Pet Chat February 10th: Paws, Purrs, and Pet Antics
As the sun rises on a new day, our hearts and homes are filled with the pitter-patter of paws, the essence of today's Pet Chat episode. Picture this: Ginger the cat, gallivanting alongside us on family walks, Bunsen and Beaker, our science dogs, reveling in the unique complexities of dog ownership, and Pedro Pascal, the newest canine sensation who's already carving out a special place in our community. We dive tail first into the mishaps and marvels that pet ownership brings to our lives, from uproarious barking episodes disturbing the tranquility of the neighborhood to cozy Valentine's Day plans with our furry companions.
What's a pet story without a dash of global spice? Listeners from every corner of the world chime in, sharing tales that tug at the heartstrings—like Sasha's touching health battles with her cat Fiona—and those that provoke chuckles, such as pets claiming beds as their rightful thrones. We offer a glimpse behind the curtain at the responsibility that comes with our animal friends, discussing the ins and outs of managing heat cycles and the technological aid of GPS trackers. Meanwhile, we're not just yapping about our own experiences; we're also taking action by inviting local councilors to step into the shoes—or wheels—of those facing accessibility issues, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity for all, furry or otherwise.
Wrapping up our pet-centric palaver, our live chat reveals the amusing underbelly of pet antics, such as bed hogging strategies and snow tunnel escapades. Not forgetting the human side of the equation, we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science, weaving the importance of this global event into our conversation. And as we share updates on Bunsen and Beaker's latest projects and look forward to future events, we laugh, we ponder, and we invite you to join us on this journey where every step—whether on four legs or two—is a step toward a more connected, compassionate world.

Hello pet enthusiasts, welcome to Pet Chat. It's the wholesome audio show that is multicast across all the social media platforms. My name is Jason Sikowski, I'm the dog dad of Bunsen and Beaker the science dogs on social media, and my co-host is Hi there I am Chris Sikowski, co-host with the mostest and also dog mom to Bunsen and Beaker and cat mom to Ginger.
Speaker 3:Pet Chat brings together Twitter audio, twitter Live Video, facebook Live Video and Instagram Live. And if Twitter ever gets its act together on stabilizing the platform to run spaces off desktop, we will be bringing in TikTok as well. I figured out how to do that, but we just need to free up one more dongle. You should see all the tech. I've got this just like going on here to make sure this happens. So welcome and to people.
Speaker 4:Jason, are you going to do a tech talk? Welcome to my tech talk.
Speaker 5:Welcome to my.
Speaker 3:Maybe, but I just wanted to say I just wanted to welcome everybody in because, like Chris, you can't see what's going on. But Instagram is like bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub. All these people are joining. There's a whole shwaka, people who are watching live and then, within Twitter Audio, we've got 25, 26 people listening live. And to people who are watching the replay welcome. But Chris, do you want to start with your story?
Speaker 4:Yeah, I sure do. So you know that I like to involve Ginger in everything that we do, and she really likes to participate.
Speaker 4:She does, yeah. And so you said hey, on Friday let's go for a walk, and, like we do every day, when it doesn't get too dark, and I said this is great. And then I pulled out her backpack and put it on the chair and then I went to get my boots on first, because it's kind of a pain to put boots on when you have the cat in the backpack. So I went and put my boots on and you walked back into the kitchen and you said hey, ginger, you're in your backpack, do you want to come along? And so she jumped into her backpack and was ready to come along, and then I put her on my back and away. We went on her walk and she got to enjoy the great outdoors with Bunsen Beaker and you and I. It was fantastic.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and that was not staged at all. Like, if you saw that video on, I don't think I posted it on Twitter or, sorry, on the meta, like our Instagram and Facebook stuff. But some people were, some people are like you just put her there and I was like, no, she jumped into the backpack. I just I don't, you know, maybe I should walk around with my camera on all the time. I would definitely catch more stuff. But yeah, ginger just hopped into the backpack and you can see in the video she's clearly sitting there waiting to go because she loves to come for walks in her backpack. She's a good girl, she's kind of a neat cat. Yeah, all right, so are you? Are you good? Can I go to my story?
Speaker 4:You can. I was going to share about the farm cats.
Speaker 3:Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 4:Yeah, so Jason and I were helping my stepdad feed his cats and dogs. So Doc is a miniature snazor he's such a cutie and Gord has four cats he has Finn and Larry and Willow and Mouse and there's an order that you have to feed these cats. Adam was not following the correct order, but I found out from Gord what the correct order was anyway. So Jason and I were there and Jason was like oh hi, and then he was like grabby. He was a little handsy with Finn and he thought he could pick up Finn just like he picks up Ginger. No, no, no, no, no. Thank you.
Speaker 3:No by scratching you. He scratched me.
Speaker 5:Yeah.
Speaker 3:He, I picked him up and he scratched me and I was like, oh, you're not Ginger. And then I was terrified. I would swell up like a balloon because I'm so allergic to cats.
Speaker 4:But you didn't swell up like a balloon, so I'm wondering if exposure to Ginger has made an impact on your threshold for an allergic reaction.
Speaker 3:That's right. That which does not kill you makes you less allergic to cats. There you go. I don't think they say that.
Speaker 4:No, they don't. They say what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
Speaker 3:Right.
Speaker 4:But I just say what doesn't kill you, just doesn't kill you.
Speaker 3:Yeah Well, I know some people that got very sick and what doesn't kill you just makes you very weak sometimes. So I think you can just make up your own saying so, okay, so, but Chris, I talked to Adam and I'm like Adam, how come the cat scratched me? And he's like, oh well, that cat you got to be careful with. So you know what I think it's. Everybody has to be careful with that cat. It's not a cat.
Speaker 4:Jason, did you see me pick him up and go hi Finny Finny and give her kisses? Okay.
Speaker 3:All right, yes, okay, see. Yes, you did pick up the cat and you did not get swacked by him.
Speaker 4:No, but then you know what? I also see you picking up Ginger and you give her kisses.
Speaker 3:Well, because she's a good cat.
Speaker 4:It's stunning to me that this is a possibility in our house.
Speaker 3:She's really cute. She's a really cute little cat.
Speaker 4:I know it's just like really heartwarming that you actually love the cat.
Speaker 3:She's my buddy, I like normally she'd be throwing herself against the door to come into this room where I do the show, and then she sits like behind the screen, because we're behind the screen for the people on live. That's the guest bed. So I just put the screen up so nobody can see the guest bed. Okay, my story, and then we'll get to community sharing. Sound good.
Speaker 4:So if you're just that sounds really good, but how were you cycling through the dogs a second ago?
Speaker 3:Did you see that I'm getting?
Speaker 4:better with the tech.
Speaker 3:So I can. They're like this program. Do you want me to talk about tech or not? Hi?
Speaker 4:my name is Jason Zacofi.
Speaker 8:Welcome to my Tech Talk.
Speaker 3:This is a. You were trapping me to talk about tech and I'm gleeful, so I'm just getting better with the technology to cycle through all of the people who are on live right now and there's all of these different possibilities that I can do. So like there's this one that's cool, but then it just makes us all too small. But I think if I do that it's like, really that one's kind of neat. I don't mind that one. Let's do that. We'll leave it on this one. This is so everybody. We can see everybody. So anyways, for my story it's actually about cats, chris.
Speaker 3:So ginger and beaker have been in cahoots all week. All week they've been in cahoots. Ginger has been working with beaker to knock crap off every counter so they can feast together, and it's gone up a notch. What is going? What is? Ginger figured out how to do. Now this is bananas. She can open up the cupboard. She opens up the cupboard with all of the treats in it and hauls them out at two o'clock and then at night, and then her and beaker have a feast until I hear them rustling about together. And then I got to like get out and I'm like what are you guys doing? And they're just like eating all of the treats together as fast as possible.
Speaker 4:Yeah, but ginger can't get into the bag.
Speaker 3:No, she needs yeah, that's it yeah go ahead.
Speaker 4:She needs beaker to open the bag for her Yep, and then she gets all of the stuff down which. I thought was like in a pretty safe space. It is, it's in a cupboard.
Speaker 3:It's in a cupboard.
Speaker 4:It is or you had the treat. Like when we take them to the school or out, we have a bag that we put all our stuff in. Ginger can put her little head in the bag and grab any bag of little treats with her teeth and haul them out. So it doesn't have to be in the cupboard, it can just be in the treat bag where he just pulls them all out.
Speaker 3:Oh, my goodness yeah.
Speaker 4:I know.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so that's my story and that is why in text from Bunsen this week there was a beaker and ginger in cahoots. It's shenanigans.
Speaker 4:Her being a cat burglar was super cute.
Speaker 3:Yep.
Speaker 4:I was super funny. All of them were funny yeah.
Speaker 3:Well, thank you. I wrote those on the couch in 20 minutes while I was, before I had to get to work on Friday, so they maybe I need to just like be under the gun to have the best puns come to my brain. That's a little dangerous. Okay, so our stories are done.
Speaker 3:Pet Chat works this way. We play a game, chris and I talk about Bunsen and beaker and then the most fun part of our show for the rest of the time we open up the floor for everybody to talk about their own pets. So we've got people live who can speak, which is awesome. And on Twitter video or Twitter audio, chris, you can bring people up who are requesting and then we're going to go back and forth and have a cross platform global pet discussion from everybody who's tuning in, if you're on, if you're on Instagram live. One more thing it's it's harder to bring you into the conversation, but you can still type a comment and I will see that, read it. And for people on Facebook live or or Twitter live, if you type a comment, I can throw it up on the screen, just like Madison Redford. It's very cool. Over to you, chris. We'll go to Twitter audio first and then we'll go to video.
Speaker 4:We have Sasha first and then Dr Tracy.
Speaker 3:Okay, so we'll, we'll do. How about Sasha and then somebody from live video? Sound good?
Speaker 4:Yeah, but I brought both Sasha and Dr Tracy up. Okay, but Sasha, we'll go first. Welcome, hello.
Speaker 8:Hi Chris, hi Jason, and it's so good to see everybody on video, so I've kind of done this duly, so I'm logged into the audio show so I can talk, but I have the video up on my iPad so I can see everybody who's in the live video, which is really kind of awesome, yeah, so I love that. But we've definitely gone to the cats and I will say, jason, just my husband used to be allergic to cats. When he and I first moved in together, I had this cat grover and he spent quite a while just kind of like sniffly around them and he didn't pick them up, and then his allergy just completely went away over time and now, like you know, fiona sits on his head and he's fine. Oh God, yes, oh my goodness.
Speaker 3:I love it.
Speaker 8:But I do want to talk about Fiona, and those of you that follow me have probably seen this. We've been having some health issues with her for the last month. It started about three and a half weeks ago. She just had a day where she just wasn't herself, like she was awake and in her cat ball and just looking really uncomfortable.
Speaker 8:And I'm really pleased my vets really good about same day appointments so we took her in and, as the vet always does in that situation, they took an X-ray of her abdomen to make sure nothing was blocked up. She wasn't blocked up, but they looked like there was something in there that wasn't supposed to be, and so she had an ultrasound a week later and they found a cyst they're still not sure what it is that seems to be attached to her pancreas and the wall. If it's too thin they can't put a needle in it and see what's in there. And then it looks like her lymph nodes related to the pancreas that are at the base of her intestine were enlarged, and so we took her to a surgeon who did a CT and tried to aspirate what he could, and they just don't know what it is. They don't know what's going on with her. The other thing to her spleen. There is a blood vessel now from her spleen to her kidneys. That is not normal in cat anatomy and they think it's fairly new, like it just grew there.
Speaker 8:The only good news we have is they looked at her lungs and there's no signs of cancer. And so the vets like, okay, well, we can do a surgery, just get all this foreign stuff out. And we're actually thinking of not doing it because it would be she'd be in the hospital for like four to five days and there'd be a long recovery and except for that one day she didn't feel well. She's been completely oblivious. She's eating really well, so we don't know what's going to happen Right now. We just don't want to stress her out because even the day she had the CT and the aspiration she didn't want to talk to us for like two days. She didn't want to be touched, she didn't want pets, nothing. And it wasn't that she was physically ill, we think it was just mentally really hard for her. So I've been very worried about my little kitty. Sasha's been worried about her. When the day she came back after the procedure and she was basically staying in her cat ball, sasha kept going to check on her.
Speaker 8:The seat was wrong with her cat. So that's kind of what's been going on with us and it's definitely not been the easiest time. We love that little thing to death. She's 10 and a half now and so hoping that it isn't cancer and that she doesn't feel bad and that she just kind of gets on with life is what we're really hoping. But I will say that when we first got her and we had our greyhound, the two of them teamed up to get the snacks and eat them Same as beaker and ginger.
Speaker 8:Although we kept the snacks in a cabinet way up high and she couldn't get into that, so but she did get the beef jerky that we had left on the counter.
Speaker 3:I love those team up stories and I'm probably speaking for everybody. But we're all thinking best thoughts for the recovery or just getting back to normal for your little kitty.
Speaker 8:Yeah, fiona's a special cat. She's so friendly, she's so tolerant of Sasha. The worst she's ever done is hiss at her, but she's never swatted her. I believe Sasha has deserved it.
Speaker 3:It's a little bit different than ginger, I think beakers like between one to seven swats a day.
Speaker 8:Yeah, and we actually wanted Fiona to swap Sasha when Sasha was a puppy, so she'd learn. Nope, wouldn't do it. She's just that's just not how she rolls. So but anyway, like I said, it's great to see everyone. I'm looking forward to the upcoming annual Valentine's video with Benson and beaker, so so, and anyway, I will get off the mic now and let someone else have a turn. Thank you, guys.
Speaker 3:You, betcha, thanks for the update, even though it was. You know, we do share wins and we do share losses and you know some scary time, so it's important part of being a pet parent. Thank you, okay. Thank you very much. We're going to go to live video, chris, if that's okay, and then we'll come back to audio.
Speaker 4:Yeah, that sounds great.
Speaker 3:Okay, I think. I think we'll go to teen Teen, did you want to go?
Speaker 6:I do.
Speaker 3:Okay, I'll put you solo and then everybody else will be the little box on the side. If that's okay, absolutely, I'll figure it out. I'll try and figure out how to do this. You keep talking.
Speaker 11:Best wishes to Fiona and anyone else. I know that there's quite a few dogs in our community and cats that are going through some stuff right now so.
Speaker 11:I wanted to address that. I made a little blurb that I had a special announcement and it's probably not that special or a shock to anyone, but I got this little guy, pedro Pascal, on Monday. He was Now that's a lot of dog's Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. He was at one of my vet techs homes and not claimed gosh. I'm so sorry he's staying forever. He has claimed his spot. That's Anderson. Oh, he lies. Let me go over here.
Speaker 3:It's okay, teen, it's okay. It's okay, bunsen barks all the time when we do this.
Speaker 11:Now they're all going and it's Anderson who can't hear anything. He doesn't know what's going on. Who started it all? Pedro is going to stay. I'm going to have a completely healthy dog in the herd. It's not real normal for me to have one that doesn't need special food or medication or special gear, and he is such a delight Little Lucio ball. She can tell when a dog is healthy and she hates them. Absolutely zero tolerance. She's like you don't belong here. She has fallen in love with this little puppy.
Speaker 11:She is frolicking, she is flirting and I don't know if you remember little Kevin Bacon that we had Looks just like Pedro and I didn't get enough time with Kevin and he just kind of he fills a hole that I have in my heart and so that's, that's my big announcement. He's going to stay and we're back to having a party of eight dogs on the sofa.
Speaker 3:I love it. He's a cutie.
Speaker 11:He's a cutie. He's a lot of fun too, and he did not come housebroken. He was super easy to train and gosh. I just love them to pieces and someone. I'm going to keep them anonymous, but they sent me a donation as his adoption fee.
Speaker 3:Oh, that's wonderful.
Speaker 11:Yeah.
Speaker 3:What a cool update. I love that. Yeah, have a good one this time. Yay, pedro, look at the comment right there. There we go, very sweet.
Speaker 11:Very sweet. Thank you, everybody.
Speaker 3:Okay, thanks, team, we love you.
Speaker 11:Love you too.
Speaker 3:Okay, Chris, we'll go back to audio.
Speaker 4:Perfect, we have Dr Tracy.
Speaker 5:Hi everybody. First I want to say congratulations to teen, because I think Pedro is just adorable and it was so obvious that he and Lucy are made for each other Really. So I'm just thrilled, like a lot of people are, I'm sure. My story is about my, my treeing Walker Coonhound. I don't know if anybody here has a Coonhound, but they are really, really, really different You'll. If you read about them, they'll say, oh, they're just stubborn and they're hard to train. They are hard to train. I don't think it's that they're stubborn, and a lot of Coonhound owners feel the same way I do. They're just not really very bright. They're really not interested in what you have to tell them to do, so they're interested in chipmunks, corals and raccoons, and Rudy is just obsessed with raccoons, really obsessed, and unfortunately our house is in the middle of the woods and it's full of raccoons and there's one tree close to the house I'm going to cut it down that they really, really, really love to see it through the windows in the family room.
Speaker 5:Oh, my goodness oh yeah, so at night if a raccoon goes up there, she can hear it and she can see it. Yeah, it's not funny.
Speaker 3:No, I would be like if that happened in our house, beaker would lose her ever loving mind. Do you think so, chris? Like of a rack, if Beaker could see a raccoon outside it would be a problem.
Speaker 5:Your problem, it's a problem with Rudy. She does, she loses her mind and there's nothing we can do about it, absolutely nothing. She can open the curtains and she looks out the window and even though it's dark, she knows he's out there. She can hear him, she can see him and she goes crazy and she starts to bark. And if you've ever heard a Coon Hound bark, it's not really a bark, it's a bay and it's really loud and they can go on easily for an hour without a break. My goodness.
Speaker 5:After we went to bed last night, she started doing that, and it didn't make any sense, because she doesn't usually do that. First time this has happened like this. And so and she did. She did it for about an hour and there's nothing we could do, and she must have been up all night long. Oh my goodness, exhausted she barked.
Speaker 3:You might have to. You know, like still hearing. It is probably going to set the dog off, but like the visual, taking that away might help.
Speaker 5:Oh, we have, we have curtains, we have shits.
Speaker 3:But it's the sound right.
Speaker 5:Oh yeah, yeah, I'm in that tree and there are bird feeders out there. There's a platform bird feeder out there. Even if they don't get on the platform feeder which I don't see how they can the ground, they dig around in the ground and they're really close to the house. So, anyway, she barked for about an hour and then she was quiet.
Speaker 5:And then this morning Jim went in and he woke her up and he took her outside, because she started to wake up in the morning, of course, and then we brought her in a feeder and we went right back to bed and so I woke her up and put her outside, and outside she went to bed. And then this afternoon we took the other two dogs for a walk and we don't take Tutie because she pulls so horribly she would kill us. So we had to wake her up to bring her inside while we took the other two dogs for a walk, and when we came back from the walk we had to wake her up to her outside again, and she went in the dog house and went to sleep and woke her up and brought her in to feed her dinner and she went in the family room and went to sleep again. My goodness, I think the other dogs had been in and out and playing and having a great time. She fucked all day.
Speaker 3:That's what is that? Living with the consequences of your actions.
Speaker 5:Oh yeah, and I'm afraid it'll have to get night.
Speaker 3:Oh no, oh no. Well, I don't know, I can't give you much advice. It's the, it's the hearing is part of it, right, the dogs have such you such great hearing if without the visual. But I guess, just soldier on and hopefully it becomes a thing where the dog just gets used to the sound, right?
Speaker 5:Well, yeah, oh no, she won't. She's a Coonhound and they don't ever see them as pets.
Speaker 3:That's why nobody has Coonhounds because, you have to invest in a sound machine, in earplugs I guess.
Speaker 5:Yeah, that's about it, I'm afraid. Oh well, that's all. Otherwise it's pretty unadventure, but yeah Well, thanks, tracy.
Speaker 3:Even though, even though your situations may be not the best, everybody has big smiles with your storytelling. We are commiserating with you. Even though it's not, we don't have to deal with it, so maybe that's what makes it a little bit more amusing.
Speaker 5:I'm sure it does.
Speaker 3:Wonderful story telling. Thanks, okay, we're going to go to live. Who would like to speak on live? Teen, you're waving, did you want to?
Speaker 11:I have to take care of Keeper, so I'm going to jump off.
Speaker 3:You bet.
Speaker 11:But I'll switch over onto the spaces you betcha.
Speaker 3:We'll see you whenever. Thanks for coming.
Speaker 11:Okay, good, I'll give you about five, 10 minutes.
Speaker 3:All good.
Speaker 11:Okay, thanks.
Speaker 3:You betcha, okay. Would anybody on live like to speak or just raise your hand because it's like okay, jamie, go ahead. Good morning everybody.
Speaker 2:Hello, I've been wandering around the backyard while everybody else has been speaking and I've been listening to their stories. I just wanted to show you how green and jungly it is here at the moment. I don't know if you saw the chickens just before. That was Henry having a crow with all these girls. I've got River of Doom here.
Speaker 2:It's been a busy pet week. My husband has been really sick. We're still trying to work out what's wrong with him. Too many blood tests and all that sort of stuff. Anyway, normally he feeds the dogs breakfast in the morning. When he's been sick I've been doing it for him and on Friday morning I got up and I thought okay, he's still asleep, I'll feed the dogs. I gave the dogs some breakfast and then I was doing something else. Then I turned around and he was feeding them again. They conned him into second breakfast, second breakfast, they got full, second breakfast and they were just so pleased and they tried it again this morning. Jenna sat there this morning to like we haven't been fed ever, ever, ever. There's been no food in our lives. We're all dying. She still had milk on her mouth from first breakfast and she's trying to con him again. No, don't let her lie to you.
Speaker 3:Oh my goodness, it's universal, isn't it, jamie? How dogs try and trick one person against the other.
Speaker 2:But then yesterday morning. So tomorrow is my father-in-law's 80th birthday, so we had a big surprise party for him last night. So this is Sunday morning here in Australia in the real world. So we had this surprise party for him last night. So I knew I couldn't take the dogs for a run last night so I thought I'll take them for a run in the morning. I don't normally run them in the morning because day time running river in the daytime is a bad thing because he's such a sensitive, soupy lala boy that if another dog looks at him sideways he thinks they're calling him names and teasing so he screams if another dog looks at him. So Rosie and River and I are going for a run yesterday morning with him screaming for nearly five kilometers.
Speaker 3:Oh my goodness, you and Tracy have something in common.
Speaker 2:Oh God, and we did this big loop and we ended up down basically the property where Rosie came from, so the yard where all the working dogs are, where her mom and her dad and her brothers, and all the other dogs in the yard waiting to go out and work some cattle they're all in the yard and River's screaming his head off and, of course, the 10 dogs in this yard all went off as well. It's six o'clock in the morning on a Saturday morning and all of these dogs are screaming. Rose isn't making a sound, but River's screaming and all of her siblings are screaming and oh God. So apologizing to the people, saying I'm really sorry.
Speaker 3:My dog's an idiot, but you were running. So, jamie, you were like the Doppler effect, right, yes, you were like if River was screaming, you would be like, oh, you know like it would be.
Speaker 2:That's it. That's it and I'm really sorry to all of the neighbors along all of those streets because he just somebody looked at him sideways and he was sad oh. And that's his sucky face.
Speaker 3:He is. He's got a sucky face. Yeah, he does.
Speaker 2:And I don't know if you saw it earlier they were. He and Rose decided they were chasing little lizards, and so they jump up on a table.
Speaker 3:I was going to ask you why a dog was on the table, but that's because the lizards were there Chasing things.
Speaker 2:I don't know. It could have been anything. It could have just been a leaf that they were chasing.
Speaker 3:That's so wild. So, chris, I know maybe you're looking a little bit on the live, but like it's just so weird, jamie, that you have all of this, like you know, lush vegetation everywhere and, if Chris just pointed, outside we have like snow. There's no, there's no lizards anywhere, anywhere where we are.
Speaker 2:So I did the well. We've had the discussion before about mowing, jason, you and I, and how much fun it is. I mowed yesterday and it had been two weeks since we'd mowed, since I'd mowed this bit, and that was just because of the weather. It was too wet last week to do anything about it, and so the grass was six inches long and I was like chewing at it with the mower. And it's, and I can see. So this was less than 24 hours ago. I just about need to mow it again.
Speaker 3:I hate it. I hate it when it grows that fast. It's the worst.
Speaker 2:So yeah, summer in the tropics.
Speaker 3:Very cool, jamie, very cool.
Speaker 9:Thank you.
Speaker 3:I love that. I love that we have people tuning in from like a whole other time zone, other part of the world. It's very cool to bring us all together. Thank you. Okay, Chris, we'll go over to audio and then we'll come back to video for if Lisa or Marla want to speak.
Speaker 4:For sure. Um, we did have a speaker request from Donnie, but it looks like Donnie had to leave, which is unfortunate. Um, but we do have Tracy, hi, tracy Go ahead. Hi everyone, hi.
Speaker 7:Um, not much here. Ricky's doing really well, oh good, um, he did get some chicken yesterday.
Speaker 3:So he's a lucky boy, fancy.
Speaker 7:Um, he'll probably get some more today because, uh, you know I have some left, so might as well just spoil him a little bit. And then he paid me back by sleeping by me and looking super cute this morning and I was going to take a picture and then my camera like went to a different mode on my phone and then that didn't work out. But he's doing really well and, uh, you know, we're just uh pretty happy over here.
Speaker 3:Good to hear. So what's the chicken like? Is that a? Is that a special food for the cat? Or like did? Did Ricky just get like a chicken breast off your plate, tracy?
Speaker 7:No, yeah, just like, um, just like I took the skin off and wrote history chicken and gave him a little bit.
Speaker 3:That would be crack for a cat.
Speaker 7:Yeah, so just gave him a little bit of that.
Speaker 3:Uh, Chris, Chris, what does ginger sneak of ours every chance that she gets?
Speaker 4:Um the almond milk from the protein shakes that we drink.
Speaker 3:Yes, yeah. And then she's like I don't know what's happening. She tries to lick the lead clean and we have to like shoo her away. I'm like I don't know if this is good for you, ginger. You're a cat and this is like protein drink. She still drinks it, Jason she's relentless and cute she is relentless and cute. So does Ricky like the, the skin or like the meaty part? Better, tracy.
Speaker 7:Um well, I didn't know if I was supposed to give him the skin, so I haven't given him the skin, but uh, he does. Like you know, he's a fan of chicken, so he's still looking out.
Speaker 3:Okay, lucky Ricky.
Speaker 7:But maybe I can try it and see if he does like the skin and that could be like a little treat every once in a while, okay, Love it.
Speaker 3:Thanks for the update, tracy. Okay, we'll go over. We'll go back to live Live video. Did any of our other live speakers want to speak? I'll speak, lisa. Okay, so I'll bring you up on solo view on camera. There you're on the East Coast so it's dark, right?
Speaker 10:It's dark here now.
Speaker 10:Yeah, yeah, it's dark about 536 now it's staying like longer. So I was driving home the other day from work and it was after 5, and I was just thrilled that it was still light up. So our days are getting longer, so I'm happy about that. So I'm very impressed with everybody else Dogs on live who are just laying there calmly as I'm having to bribe Benson with Libertry. They're with me, but Bowie's just crawled under. I've got a coffee table in front of me and she's crawled under that. So she's here. Oh, she's just poked her head out. So we missed Pet Chat for the last few weeks and I apologize for that. It's been a little bit crazy here in Ottawa, but Benson is planning his Valentine Day surprises for Beaks, so that's sort of been keeping me busy with different ideas.
Speaker 3:Love is in the air. Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 10:Yes, it is. That's all he talks about. Sorry, I had to play that sound effect.
Speaker 3:No, go ahead, lisa. Oh, I just want to kiss their faces.
Speaker 10:I know he's such a sweet guy.
Speaker 3:Oh, my heart, my heart for Goldens.
Speaker 10:Yes, indeed. So on their walk this morning we have a big park that they get to go sort of zoom around, and it was a bit a little bit icy this morning, but they got to go in the park and Bowie will find anything dead and she will try and eat it. So, unfortunately we only found half of something left. I'm about to eat it now, so we're just sort of waiting to see if there's going to be any consequences that we've heard.
Speaker 10:Oh no, yeah, but other than that, not too much with these two. My post-it earlier West, our canine support dog Therapy Dog, was doing quite a few interviews with us this week so he came to see me in the office and I have some of the stuffies that we give to the kids so they were on my desk. So West was very, very interested, especially in ginger. So, I pulled ginger down and he still. Ginger is now his favorite and he left with ginger. He never gave her back.
Speaker 3:Oh, my goodness.
Speaker 10:Yeah, he sleeps with her in his office when he's there. If I go into the CRWs that he will be there with his little ginger stuffie tucked in under his paws, so it's quite adorable. So even the support heroes need some love from the stuffies. So thank you very much for assisting us with that program. So that's fantastic.
Speaker 3:Well and thank you.
Speaker 10:And that's it.
Speaker 3:Thank you for what you do for those kids. An unbelievably tough job and just with the compassion that you show is just, I don't know, amazing.
Speaker 10:Well, thank you very much. I love it. I'm very fortunate I work with great people. I'm lucky I have the gift of gab with people, so it's good I'd be able to get a little bit of information. But that's coming to an end. I'm retiring in June, so I'm looking forward to that as well.
Speaker 3:Great update and something arrived yesterday or a couple days ago in the mail for Beaker from a certain somebody. I wonder, I wonder.
Speaker 10:She may share with you. I don't know, and that's it.
Speaker 3:I love it and that's it.
Speaker 10:I won't take up any more time.
Speaker 3:Thanks, Lisa.
Speaker 4:Jason, maybe I was waiting to reveal that on the date.
Speaker 3:I'm so bad at secrets, chris, I'm sorry, I am the worst person at keeping secrets. You have to give me a list of things I can and can't say.
Speaker 4:No, you just be you. It's awesome. Thank you so much, lisa, but I will put we will have them as maybe part of the date interview, not the interview. It's just part of the date.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't know what's going on. Chris and Lisa are organizing it this year. I am I am blind to what's going on, so I'm just going to. I like I don't know what's happening. Sorry, I didn't mean to say blind, I just I am not part of the conversation. I am not knowing what's going on there. So I think you guys got something cooking, right, Chris?
Speaker 4:We do, we do, but we'll need some of your tech tech expertise. Okay, so we'll be definitely tuning into your tech.
Speaker 3:Okay, all right, so I'm I'm allowed to talk about tech. When I'm allowed to talk about tech. Is that the rule? Is that the rule? Is that what's happening here?
Speaker 4:That might be what's happening here.
Speaker 3:Yes, I was in a. I was in an audio space, I think. Last week it was a really big one where some of the audio hosts here on on X they were talking, and then I, they, they one of the guys knows what I do and he's like, hey, jason, can you explain it? And it was like I get to talk about tech. So I explained to all these people how we do it and I think it doesn't. It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. So anyways, marla, did you want to chat? You're doing such a. You're putting on like an absolute adorable little show with Kuno and Chesney.
Speaker 6:I do Asked if anybody wanted to chat to put their hands up the dogs did.
Speaker 3:I saw that too late. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 6:It's okay. It's, it's okay. You know that they're happy to be here, although Kuno keeps touching the key. How much drool can a keyboard handle before it actually, like, gets too wet?
Speaker 3:I think I can handle a bit, especially if you nab it right away. Okay, so like I'm not going to have to soak it, in rice, because I think this Kuno drool as much as Bunsen.
Speaker 6:Probably.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6:And especially cause. You know there's a treat bowl nearby and that's important. Come on, Come on. And yeah, right there Good.
Speaker 3:Stop there.
Speaker 6:We're good boy. It's been a little crazy here because she's in heat and I was worried that they might not keep it PG this evening, but they've done really well because it's even though he's fully neutered. Neutered boys still have feelings when they have frisky young ladies beside them, and so this week she's gone from being that annoying little kid to just, you know, super special, and he's gotten like hey wait, I can reuse the sound effect.
Speaker 3:I can reuse the sound effect.
Speaker 6:And it's funny because, like, they've got the GPS trackers to monitor their activity and her, being young, she runs all over the place and his activity level like, by 10 o'clock in the morning he's done his full days worth of exercise because he's following her everywhere. So, yeah, they've been a little more fun. They've been fun. Yeah, that's, but I mean otherwise. It it's par for the course and normal. Here we're getting ready to start dog show season again the end of March. We're heading down to Red Deer in April, so, yay, so we'll be able to try to see you. Yeah, and we're doing some interesting things this month where we've got a couple of presentations at Concordia University and Northwest Community College to different programs. Some of them are for people going into healthcare services, some are for future educators, and so we're doing some presentations on meaningful participation and inclusivity.
Speaker 6:And we put a challenge out recently to all of our city counselors to come and join us on a trek around a neighborhood so that they can see what it's really like, because I know some of the organizations, like Spinal Cord Injury Canada, once in a while will do a few hours at City Hall and they'll let a city counselor, you know, pop into a wheelchair and try things out. But it's a super accessible area and it really ends up being more of a promotional thing. But we want them to come out in the real world and while I don't expect them to be able to actually tackle winter in Edmonton in a real neighborhood in a wheelchair successfully on their own, we thought we'd bring along one for them to try a few different barriers. And so we've got three different city counselors who have been brave enough to sign up.
Speaker 3:Oh, you have. That's amazing, marla. That was my question, like the people not. Okay, sorry, keep continue.
Speaker 6:Well, we've had a few that you know. Come back with that polite story, our schedule is too busy, blah, blah, blah. But we've got a few that are willing to take the opportunity, which is, which is great, because, like there's so many barriers that they don't see, like I can point you out, like hey, there's 10 places that we're not welcome within a five block radius, and places, especially like we got a little snow this week so all of a sudden, anywhere that the city clears doesn't get cleared well, or they they do clear and they leave a pile of snow that blocks the bus stop and all these things that they don't really see on a day to day basis and they don't think about because it doesn't affect them. So we want to take them out and make it affect them, and I'm not sure yet which dog will accompany us on the track, but it will be. It'll be an experience, and I think that's the big thing is.
Speaker 6:Just, we can't get people. People only know what they've either learned, been taught or they personally experienced. So if we give people the opportunity to try and experience some things, then maybe they'll have a little bit better understanding and it might help affect some decision making. So we've been doing a lot of planning and organizing and all sorts of stuff like that for the month of February and yes, we have Valentine's Day coming up on, sadly neglectful about these things. So Kuno didn't even get a card in the mail to Penny yet.
Speaker 3:Well, you, I think Kuno and Chesney have been going pretty hard with all of the goal treats for how many games the Oilers won in a row. So I mean, there's some things that are that, some things that are like taking precedent in their life too.
Speaker 6:So well, yeah, but we we've that break. We lost the street.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's true.
Speaker 6:So now we've got to start all over again. Yeah, and I know it's hard to keep up, but otherwise I think, all as good, as long as they keep saying hopefully this heat cycle ends soon, because it means we can't. I can't get her out for as long, like it's a short potty breaks and not disturbing the boys in the neighborhood. So she has to do a lot of exercise indoors and it's it's not quite our normal routine and schedule. So sometimes we're not quite as well behaved as I'd like to see. But I can't really blame her. You know she's a teenager with hormones.
Speaker 2:Yep.
Speaker 6:And, truthfully, like she's a really good young dog. She's not obnoxiously bad. She doesn't try and eat people or two things she shouldn't. She just, you know, sometimes licks your ear incessantly.
Speaker 3:She's a good, she's a good. She faced love bug Marla. We love her.
Speaker 6:She is but like you know, we can't just sorry.
Speaker 3:when you said you were coming to Red Deer, you should have seen all the little hearts that Chris was throwing up in the audio chat.
Speaker 6:Oh yeah, Well, chesney loves Chris because Chris gives good belly rubs, yeah, yeah and like at least that's what I've been told Chris didn't rub my belly. And Kuno loves Chris because Chris brings burgers.
Speaker 3:That's true.
Speaker 6:And you know, you show up with a burger and that's it. Like you know, it's that thing. People always are like, oh well, he must protect you when you go out. And I'm like, no, you show up with a burger and he doesn't. You know, he's not going to protect me, he's going to sit there and be like he'll just drool because he's not sure if he's allowed to leave me. But he's going to know that burger's there and he's going to be like please, can I have that?
Speaker 3:He's a bit. They're a bit like beaker, where it's easy to be beaker's friend and not a lot of like protecting goes on there.
Speaker 6:Well, you know it's. The other thing I have to worry about is if I ever need like EMS or the fire department if I take a fall and one of them have to come help me. There's always that fear that, like the fireman coming in the door is going to scare the dog, or the fireman is going to be terrified of the dog.
Speaker 3:Right yeah.
Speaker 6:And so we've got the big. It's a red bin and it's clearly labeled first responder dog treats for as soon as they come in the door, they can't miss it.
Speaker 3:Oh, that's a good idea, hmm.
Speaker 6:Actually, it's something I recommend to a lot of people if you, because you never know when that situation might happen. You might not be at home and they have to come in. It's a way that they can make a friend very quickly. The other thing that I found myself doing the other night I was out for I was out with Kona when it was the late night potty walks. It was like midnight and I live near the ravine. We get a few transient people and I'm just off White Ave, so sometimes we get some impaired people.
Speaker 3:Yeah yeah exactly.
Speaker 6:So there was a little bit of obnoxious noise coming from somebody's front yard and I felt a little bit uncomfortable. So I did a live stream on TikTok while walking my dog. That way I would have witnesses just in case we got mauled, murdered or dismembered.
Speaker 3:There's digital proof of it.
Speaker 6:Actually, you know, I think that's something I might do on a regular basis. It was amazing. I had a dozen people fully invested in our late night dog walk, making sure that we were safe.
Speaker 3:I love that. That's a great idea. That's a great idea.
Speaker 6:So, yeah, if you're a single person out for your late night dog walk, consider using Instagram or TikTok and streaming your dog walk. People are happy to just watch where you're going and I think it also does that thing where you're talking and it gives that sense that you're communicating. So that is that security barrier.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, and anybody listening who's like you know they're like, oh, that person's clearly they're not somebody I'm gonna probably do anything with, because they're obviously in a full-on conversation with somebody and can alert the authorities quickly, kind of deal, so yeah.
Speaker 6:Exactly yeah great idea and granted, nobody ever seems to approach me late at night because he is so big, yes, but Chesney's not nearly as daunting looking. If you want to make a rock-wile look friendly, you leave the tail, so it's. But yeah, that's gonna be something I'm going to be doing a few late night TikTok dog walks. That's my new self-security thing, I think, because it's different times out there.
Speaker 3:I love it. Well, I don't know if I'll ever be up that late to tune in, but if I will, if I am, I will Marla.
Speaker 6:I need to get my schedule back to not going so late. The hockey games end too late. That's the problem.
Speaker 3:Oh, that's, it yeah.
Speaker 6:Then on 8 o'clock hockey game. It's like 1130 midnight. When you're done, then everybody has to go out and do the potty. Thankfully they go quick. They're pretty much on cue with that, so it doesn't take too long. But yeah, so that's where we're at this week. We're pretty good busy trying to change the world one move at a time.
Speaker 3:Well, we're here. We're here to support you whenever you need our help. Marla, just give us a shout and thanks for being on live with us. You're entertaining everybody. The dogs are so good. I so appreciate it.
Speaker 6:Thank you.
Speaker 3:You bet, chris, we got somebody on audio. Have you been watching any of the shenanigans on live?
Speaker 4:I have been watching all of the shenanigans on live, yeah, and I've been watching the chat too, and I've been putting things up into the nest for the people here on our audio show to enjoy.
Speaker 3:Okay, can maybe talk a little bit about that, chris, because I've been watching the live and doing the comments here. Sure, and one sorry one thing we are going to lose our Instagram feed right away. The max time that all of this connects together is one hour. So if you are watching on Instagram, we, within the next 20 seconds, are going to not be here anymore. Okay, over to you, chris.
Speaker 4:Sure. So I put up the sweets of Marla's talking about the city of Edmonton and the snow clearing, but then I also put up some posts where the attitude of a 17 month old, well socialized pup and so that of course, is Chesney, who is the cutest puppy ever. And then I really loved the picture that Marla shared today Operation Bed Hogs.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, I saw that this morning.
Speaker 4:It's so funny. It has been an overwhelming success this morning and those dogs take up the whole bed.
Speaker 3:They're big, yeah, like who knows, as big as Bunsen.
Speaker 4:So who know I'm sure is bigger than Bunsen Jason.
Speaker 6:I need to point this out here. There are times where I actually sleep sideways on the bed. I can do that because I'm, like, short enough, so they take up so much room on the bottom half that I just sleep sideways oh my goodness.
Speaker 4:But they are taking up the whole bed Like Operation Bed Hogs that is their new nickname. And then, of course, kuno's been doing the nose, doing the tunnels with his nose and getting snow on his nose, and he just loves that. That's a fun activity.
Speaker 3:Very cute.
Speaker 4:Yeah, and then when Lisa was talking with Benny, I put up some of their posts Like Happy Saturday, valentine's is around the corner. And then today was a super cute picture of is that pizza? I like pizza. With the dog eyes on the couch.
Speaker 3:I miss that one.
Speaker 4:It was so cute. And then I got some pictures of Ricky up in the nest from Tracy and then Dr Tracy's dog, trudy, as well. And then I got, of course, teen with Pedro and Lucy, because it's so cute, so I've got them on there with their dinner date. I didn't get any of the ones where it's like Pedro is taking up the space in her dog bed and Lucy's dog bed. It's like I'm sleeping here and he's just like crawling right in. So those are cute. I didn't get that one. And then, of course, I have Work and Beyond and they're our sponsor with their Valentine's last call and then also win a gift card to our store. So I think that's a great time to. Well, I have Sasha, the burner doodle as well, sharing about Fiona as well as Holly and then sharing about what Sasha has been up to. But I do want to go back to Work and Beyond, hello.
Speaker 1:Hello, so I don't really have a pet story. If I don't have a pet story about Georgia and Atlas, that's actually a good thing. It's that Georgia is behaving.
Speaker 3:Yay.
Speaker 1:So they're getting along still. So that's good, hold on Sorry.
Speaker 3:No, it's okay.
Speaker 4:Okay, I had a phone call coming.
Speaker 1:We are. I wanted to let everybody know that we're gonna. We just started, like literally in the last five minutes, free shipping till tomorrow night. Oh cool, no minimum. So shop away.
Speaker 3:I'll put up a banner on the live video about that.
Speaker 1:All right. And if you see my pinned tweet, you'll see Georgia's boyfriend Teddy getting his Valentine. Can't miss that, it's good.
Speaker 3:All right, I think Crystal Nab it and throw it up there. That's about it for me. That's great I have alerted all of the live viewers about that cool deal for free shipping. Awesome, thank you. Hey, we've got somebody just tuned in. Indra is here, Chris.
Speaker 4:Oh, that's awesome. Indra is our partner as well, yeah, and she had a space today on how to live worry-free, or how to be more worry-free and live more positively. What was it, jason? Worry-free.
Speaker 3:I was busy. You probably knew more than know more than me, but we can find it on our profile. I will do so. Just getting some feedback from there we go. Okay, it's all good, bark and beyond. I just turned your mic off because there was some feedback coming from you. Hopefully that was okay. So, yeah, there was how to worry less and live more positively, positively, positively, positively. There we go. So there's the replays up in the nest, if you want to take a look at that from Indra.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I got that too Worry-free and live more positively Sounds a lot better than what was I saying.
Speaker 3:I don't know, I don't know what you were saying.
Speaker 4:Worry-free.
Speaker 3:Worry-free.
Speaker 4:Yeah, did not be worried all the time.
Speaker 3:I love it. So should we do some wrap up? We're kind of at the end that doesn't look like there's any more speakers. Oh, Jamie, go ahead. Yeah, you're muted, Jamie. Try again. Just a second, Jamie. Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 2:Sorry, the button vanished for a moment. I just wanted to also say today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Celebrate women and girls in science and encourage more to look at science as a way of life.
Speaker 3:I love that. Yeah, that's a great message and I saw your post about that and I must have missed it, so it's a big day, it's your tomorrow. Oh, it's tomorrow, right? Because you're in Australia, you're a day ahead. That's why I was like and normally I get notifications for big holidays, so we don't miss things.
Speaker 2:It's on Sunday. So, when you wake up, it's time to celebrate Chris.
Speaker 3:That's right. I celebrate Chris every day.
Speaker 2:As you should. It's nice and warm here, chris, don't give her any ideas.
Speaker 3:Don't give her.
Speaker 4:I've been, I've been watching going. Hmm, it hasn't been bad.
Speaker 3:No, we've had. We've had a very mild winter.
Speaker 2:We've had a disgustingly hot summer, so you probably wouldn't like that either.
Speaker 4:I would. I would definitely like that. I would love that Sign me up.
Speaker 2:I'm not doing anything and I'm sitting here sweating. So yeah, be warned.
Speaker 3:Awesome.
Speaker 4:So, yes, science, women and girls. Sorry. Yes, women and girls. Sorry, there was that overlap. I'm so sorry. I talked to a Rio Jamie. Did you see? Chesney had flowers.
Speaker 3:I see them right now. Chesney still has flowers in her mouth.
Speaker 4:Yeah, and then Kuno had a hat on.
Speaker 3:Yeah, look at him, you got boy. He's a good boy. What was that on his head? I know oh, my goodness, so cute, awesome. So should we do our prize. Should we do our prize, okay? So yeah, we'll do our prize and then we'll do some wrap up. We have some. We do have some exciting things to talk about. How many people do we have in the audio room, chris?
Speaker 4:29.
Speaker 3:All right Now, if you're listening on live, we don't know who you are, so please make a comment and we'll throw you into the. We'll throw you into the award, the draw, because I all, I all I see is numbers. It doesn't tell me who you are. Who's here, so we'll give people a second, because there's always a there's a delay to the live. So if you'd like to be in our draw, just make a comment saying I'm here. Okay, one, one person to two people. We have lots of people watching live, but I can only throw them people in the reply. Okay, three. So what's that? 31? Instagram says 2000 people tuned in. I think that's a lie. That's a lie. 31, chris, okay, well, I'm just going to do 31. We've lost Chris.
Speaker 4:No, you haven't. I'm so sorry. I was filling up the water bowl because it was making that sound, so I must apologize. What did you say?
Speaker 3:Okay, one, two, three, four, five. Okay, we didn't. Unfortunately, we didn't get the live. The live video. We're still on Twitter, Twitter audio 16. The winner today is Evie and Fern at scrotabrawl. Evie and Fern, congratulations. You've won the prize from Bark and Beyond, which is a gift certificate to their store. So that's Evie and Fern Congratulations. Please give Bark and Beyond supplycom a DM. And there's free shipping. And there's free shipping, that's right. So, evie and Fern, congratulations. Hey, so there's a code, bunsen.
Speaker 4:BUNSEN, that's right you can use for 10% off.
Speaker 3:Right, I think I have that. I need to make a banner about that. Yeah, so you can use Bunsen to save 10% BUNSEN, yeah, save some money.
Speaker 4:But I don't know if that double dips into the free shipping.
Speaker 3:I don't know, am I allowed to play some things we've got going on just to snip it? Am I allowed to do that, chris?
Speaker 4:Jason, are you sure you don't want to keep it secret and keep it safe?
Speaker 3:I don't know. I think we can tease it. How does that sound? We'll tease it.
Speaker 4:People will get excited about maybe how it sounds right now and even though it's not a finished product. So then they'll think why is it a little different?
Speaker 3:Okay, I get it. I get it so we can tease what I might have been able to do, but Chris says no.
Speaker 4:Well, you can tease that we've been working on something and you can tell them what we're working on a little bit.
Speaker 3:So there are two new songs to vultures of parliament coming out at the end of this month, which Chris and I have been working on. Very exciting. The pop pack has been part of the procedure. The top dogs and I'm going to post the rough draft to the rest of the community, so that's one of the ways that you can support Bunsen and Beaker content is to join the pop, the pop pack, and that's there's. There's ways to do that. There's like links in our profile and I think I don't know I need to figure out a better way to like get folks there.
Speaker 3:Chris, it's kind of hidden on our website, but yeah, so the pop pack community supports us and through them, we've been releasing little snippets of the song and that those two new songs are coming out at the end of this month, along with an updated cartoon of the full vultures of parliament band and what we just decided, which is going to be really fun a fake magazine called rolling bone. Instead of rolling stone, it's going to be rolling bone and we're going to be reaching out to some different dogs of Twitter to participate in being part of rolling bone and within that magazine, it's going to be a spoof of like, you know, like the rock and roll lifestyle, but it's going to be the dogs and cats of social media. So in the next couple days we'll be reaching out to any, to a few of you and if you want to be part of it, just give us a DM. And we give us a DM if that's something that's up your alley, and of course we'll, we'll try to fit you in. So it's going to be a little, a little fake. It's going to be a spoof magazine. So all of it is going to come out kind of at the end of the month.
Speaker 3:We'll have a little presale. It'll be, or, you know, it'll be fairly reasonable. There'll be some other fun stuff like vultures of parliament tattoos. We're making some. You know those like fun tattoos that you put on your arm and you get them wet and they stick there. I love those.
Speaker 4:Yes, I think they know what temporary tattoos are temporary tattoos.
Speaker 3:We're going to get some temporary tattoos.
Speaker 4:And it's going to be bad to the bone. It's going to be bad to the bone.
Speaker 3:That's right. So all of the puns in our the magazine rolling bone. So yeah, so we'll, we'll, we'll, start organizing that in the next I don't know two days. Actually I got to write we're going to make the magazine in a week and a bit, something like that.
Speaker 4:And okay. So Jason likes to bite off a lot and we're chewing on it. We have teachers convention coming up next week, yeah, so I don't know how much we can do next next week. Oh, I thought you said next week and I'm like um next that's a little busy um with the. What we have planned so next, next week, is probably the best for a timeline for our magazine, because then we'll be done convention. But then we have the red deer convention.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and that's the other thing. Do you want to talk about what's happening at the Calgary teachers convention, chris, cause it is bananas with the pets in the classroom presentation. Yeah. Or about your slime presentation about whatever you want to talk about.
Speaker 4:Jason has been working hard um on his slime presentation. He has bought all the glue in red deer.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 4:And he went through the co-op and he had these big jugs of glue. I think he needs um 5,000 liters of oh, you need 5,000 liters, uh, or 5,000 milliliters of.
Speaker 3:I bought four, four jugs which had 5 liters of glue, so 20 liters of glue, that's a lot of that's a lot of glue. That is a lot of glue. That is all the glue co-op had.
Speaker 4:Yeah. And so you were in the till, and you were. You said I felt chaotic. I felt chaotic, good, um. And so the girl, he, you were waiting for the um cashier to say hey, what are you doing with all that glue? Yep, and you waited.
Speaker 3:I knew. I knew somebody would say why, why are you buying all this glue? I knew they would.
Speaker 4:And then they did and you said I'm sorry that's classified, I can't tell you yeah.
Speaker 3:So that cashier has a story to tell for the rest of their life. Cause I said it totally deadpan, absolutely serious, um, and I had my dress clothes on from work, so I looked like I was some kind of a government agent. It was. I had a black shirt and I like a uh like a uh like a tie on. So it was just my little joke to myself that day.
Speaker 2:Yeah, did you have your sunglasses on?
Speaker 3:No, Um, I that would have been.
Speaker 7:That would have been smart, it would have been smart, if I like, when they asked me if I looked at them and then maintained eye contact.
Speaker 3:Well, I put the glasses on and then said I'm sorry, that's classified. That would have like up the ante quite a bit.
Speaker 4:Um but no, and so there's that session that you're super proud of in all your other sessions Um, but we have pets in the classroom.
Speaker 4:Um, the power of dogs, um the power of pets in the classroom that we're going to talk about together. We're co-presenting and I'm going to bring down Beaker and Bunsen to participate in that um presentation, and I have information to share about the organizations in the Calgary area um where staff can access um having uh pets in the classroom um in a uh variety of ways, and so I'm excited about that to be uh working with you on that.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's going to be super fun. We've got a huge amount of people that signed up to come, which is daunting, but also frightening, a frighteningly large amount.
Speaker 4:So you frighteningly large uh right, you know large, you've got a tech, you've got an email and you said Chris, I feel sick to my stomach. And I said why? What is going on? And you said there's 200 people coming to my session sessions sessions yeah.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:So it was frighteningly large amount.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so that, yeah, we're. I'm presenting seven sessions at the Calgary's teachers convention. It's going to be busy cause the there's four on Thursday and three on Friday. Um, so a lot of talking, but they're all super fun. I'm excited to present them and I'm excited to present the one with you, chris. That's going to be awesome, and I just keep getting notifications that more and more and more people sign up, which is that's what's making me feel a little bit sick to my stomach. So, hopefully, hopefully, we, hopefully we do a great job. But even if we screw up you know what I'm thinking like even if, together, that we ball on the session, which I'm sure we won't but if we do, we can just say you know what? This is not going great. How about you guys just pet Bunsen and beaker for 20 minutes and I?
Speaker 3:think that will be the best session. Any teacher would go to that entire convention. So, yeah, it's a lot of fun. So we'll have some. We'll have photos and videos. We'll try and take some. I always forget because I'm talking and we need to set up, get some immediate person there to make sure they snap some stuff for us. All right, that's about it. We brought Donna came up. Hi, donna.
Speaker 9:Hi guys, I've been trying to request forever and X is telling me not today, Donna Craig. However, I just want to give a friendly reminder that tomorrow is a Super Bowl and everybody's going to have a lot of guests in their house and take care with your food hitting the floor or leaving it out. Dogs are and cats are allergic to onions, garlic, a lot of items that we season with. So just want to give that friendly reminder out that dinner parties and parties are a good time for animal to get sick and you Good tip so.
Speaker 4:And it was good at cheese. There was a cheese that.
Speaker 9:A cojita. Yeah, there's a cheese recall Actually it's a couple of cheeses, but it's mostly the cojita cheese and I had a few people message me saying they had it in their house. So I'm really glad that they saw that, but it's a pretty big Listeria outbreak with that right now.
Speaker 3:Hmm, yeah, we definitely retweeted that, and I'm sure, like people use their fancy cheeses for get togethers, and Super Bowls will bring people together. I do have a question, though, donna, like if Taylor Swift wins the Super Bowl, what is next for her? Like she's already, I think, going to be on the cover of the new Madden video game.
Speaker 9:Right, oh, I think a few, I think a few red hat wears, heads will explode. I believe that she is now going to take over international soccer and will probably be on the cover of FIFA because World Cup is coming and we actually have nine of those games in Dallas. So you know, maybe she comes to Texas and rules FIFA. Yeah.
Speaker 3:Well, once she gets the winning touchdown, the next is like being a striker for some, you know, like a Manchester United or something, and then she's going to be the UN and then secretary general and rule the world.
Speaker 4:So, and then all the Swifties are going to become chief tease.
Speaker 9:Which they already are. It's crazy how I cannot stand the can see cheese as the Denver Bronco fan, but I'm team. I'm team Taylor. So, yeah, it's interesting which way my heart will go in this game. But if you guys are into Super Bowl commercials, the one that Cedarville just did I don't know if you all seen that one yet, but Cedarville the the stuff that used to wash your face. People don't know what Cedarville is at this point, but that commercial ripped my soul out and I was bawling. Oh, I mean crying, crying, crying. And I'm waiting for the Budweiser commercial because of the golden retriever oh, those Budweiser ones.
Speaker 3:I know they're selling beer, but they just like get me every year when they brought in the horse and the dog, like oh my God.
Speaker 9:Well, this one's going to get you this year with the golden retriever.
Speaker 3:My heart for golden retrievers.
Speaker 9:Yeah, I thought of you when I saw the video because I've watched several of the commercials already. But that Budweiser commercial already had me crying and I just have was in my feelings, like at work watching Super Bowl commercials and people are like what is wrong with you? I'm like, uh, 55. Uh, it's that time I cry at everything. So that Cedarville commercial will rip your heart out, especially if you're a girl dad.
Speaker 3:Okay, we'll have to watch it on YouTube. We don't get the Super Bowl commercials in Canada.
Speaker 9:What Um Paramount Plus? Do you? Can you guys stream that?
Speaker 3:I don't know, okay, okay.
Speaker 9:If you have Paramount, if you have Paramount plus and you can stream it, the Super Bowl, be on that, like the CVS version, so you'll be able to see all the commercials.
Speaker 3:I don't know. I think the CRTC does some switcheroo. When it comes the single comes to Canada just changes all your commercials to maple syrup. I don't know what to say and welcome to Canada with a beaver holding the sign, something like that.
Speaker 9:Yeah, but I would. You can Google the commercials right now and see them. Just saying, if you, if you want to watch the Budweiser commercial today and thank you, Jamie, for the shout out for women and girls in science, it's important. So that's it. I cannot wait to hopefully you do have a media person to record your presentation.
Speaker 3:It would be awesome. I have a media person at Spark, so the second day it's very hard to wrap my head around. But like they've, I'm like in this massive auditorium now and they've like brought in a person just like record what I'm doing on Friday so that that there'll be lots of media from that.
Speaker 9:Well, they say, if you're nervous, just puke first and you'll be fine.
Speaker 3:I might have to do that. I might have to do that.
Speaker 9:Well, wishing you all the best of luck in your presentation.
Speaker 3:We'll let you know on Saturday, next Saturday, because it'll be over by then. I was, what was it? I was just going to? I was just going to say I have not been making friends at my work at all with, because some of my colleagues are really into NFL and every time they start talking about NFL I talk about Taylor Swift, and it makes them absolutely so frustrated with me. So I don't think I've been making friends last week.
Speaker 9:Oh my God, your posts that got some of those people crazy and you're like, yeah, when I get into I was dying laughing and I just think it's funny. It's not like she's the first celebrity to ever go watch a game. I'm old enough to remember when Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood dated Tony Romo, cameron Diaz was dating Alex Rodriguez. It's just so stupid. Worry about your own life, stop worrying about everybody else's. Worry about yours.
Speaker 3:Every time. I was big into watching the Chicago Bulls when Michael Jordan was like the man right, and every time they played the Knicks. Jack Nicholson was always watching the New York Knicks and they always, like, every chance they would get, they would pan to him with his like he would be wearing sunglasses for some reason. With that you know that giant cashier, cashier cat grin and it's like nobody cared. It's just like, hey, what's Jack Nicholson doing? Well, he's still grinning like a crazy person in the stands.
Speaker 9:Yeah, he was a Laker fan and Spike Lee's a Knicks fan, but you're absolutely correct.
Speaker 3:Did I get that backwards?
Speaker 9:No, but I thought yeah. But, no, he's a Laker fan. A Spike Lee's a Knicks fan, but you would see Billy Crystal at games and Penny Marshall at games and nobody cares. And now it's like a big deal. It's so stupid.
Speaker 3:Well, it's probably because Taylor Swift has more money than all of the NFL. That's what I think she can buy a team, she's got enough. She could buy all the teams. Anyways, chris, do you have any closing thoughts before we wrap up here?
Speaker 4:Um well, um, yes, thank you for holding the space. Well, I'm just looking at my other phone, which is your old phone, and it says lost connection, trying to reconnect. So I'm wondering if we've lost the live feed.
Speaker 3:No, we're still here. We've definitely lost it. No, we're still on Instagram for some reason. That's good. Hello Instagram, we're still there.
Speaker 4:Okay, well, um, we're just learning all of this tech stuff. Wait till we add tick talk.
Speaker 3:Wait until I can like set up Twitter on the computer to run the space through tech, and then I'll have my phone to tick talk on a stand trying to like be bop boop Cause. They'll be like tick talks, comments coming on the thing, and I'm already going like between windows to figure out if anybody's saying anything on Instagram. Um, so it'll be a whole thing. It'll be like I'm run, you know, like uh, do you remember the force awakens when BB eight was like trying to like help the millennium Falcon and he had like little wire shooting everywhere to like make sure it didn't short circuit. That's what I, that's what I feel like sometimes.
Speaker 9:I feel like I'm BB eight, that's when you become as big as Taylor Swift, don't forget all of us that were here first.
Speaker 3:If I become as big as Taylor Swift, I'm hiring somebody to do all this.
Speaker 4:I say that to him all the time. I said don't forget me when you're famous Jason.
Speaker 3:I'm not going to forget you. I will, I will. I'll forget you when I'm like 85 and I have dementia, so that oh hey, you will never get dementia, you are brilliant. Well, the thing is I've already broke that down in the science podcasts, and and, uh, if you are relative, if you, the healthier you are and the higher your IQ. If you do get dementia, dementia, the faster your decline. So there's, which is that's. That's, that's the thing.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:So you got to be unhealthy and not very smart, and then the dementia just takes forever to take you out. So that's the Wow. Anyways.
Speaker 4:Anyways, Okay, Way way to bring it down.
Speaker 2:Okay, it's all good.
Speaker 3:Okay, so thanks for coming everybody.
Speaker 4:Yeah, thank you everybody for coming and joining our space. Um, we love uh broadcasting to all of the different platforms, um, and listening to your stories and sharing with you and sharing our lives with you. Um, hopefully next week um, we'll be able to be up and running with uh. Live for me and showing, being able to show Bunsen and beaker.
Speaker 3:That's the goal next week is Chris will be on live. We'll figure out how to also have her do audio. I don't know that's a problem for future us.
Speaker 4:Yeah, um, and happy lunar new year. And um, we put up a cute post of Bunsen, beaker and ginger dressed as dragons, because it's the year of the dragon, and Jason and I went down Well, me particularly went down the rabbit hole. Uh, cause I'm born in the year of the dragon.
Speaker 3:You went down what rabbit hole? Or what you went down the pseudoscience? Uh, rabbit hole.
Speaker 4:So that's what Jason said, cause I was like, oh, listen to my personality traits. And Jason's like that's a bunch of hogwash. And I'm like, but look, the stars are aligning and it's going to be a lucky year, but it's not going to be lucky if you're born in the year of the dragon. Um, things are going to be a little bit harder. But Jason's a horse and I said this is you, this is your total personality, um, except for the loves attention part. And then Jason's like Chris, this is just pseudoscience, this is fake, this is and I'm just was getting into it and I was talking about Adam and Duncan and about how they meet, they match their personalities.
Speaker 3:I was becoming like Dr DeGrease Tyson. I was the wet blanket of your joy. I was like, well, actually, I was the well actually science guy.
Speaker 4:You were the well actually science guy yeah.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:You were yucking on my yam.
Speaker 3:That's right, and I think the live view has just crashed, so just continue.
Speaker 4:Well, it has. I think it says check your connection to resume.
Speaker 3:It is crashed horribly, so I can.
Speaker 2:I can see Chesney sitting on her stool waving.
Speaker 3:Oh, so you're still there, but I'm not.
Speaker 2:Well, see you, but I can see Chesney and she's beautiful.
Speaker 3:Okay, that's good.
Speaker 2:She's waving her hand.
Speaker 4:She was waving earlier, so cute.
Speaker 3:I saw that earlier. Just have to believe you. I see nothing. I'm frozen. It's such a good guy Maybe that's why, jay?
Speaker 4:Maybe because at home you're cut out.
Speaker 5:I don't know.
Speaker 4:But that's bizarre, I don't know. It's still working.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 4:Yeah, so. And then Valentine's Day is coming up and so there's a special feature We'll be coming out with Benny, for Benny and Vickr with their romance and their fiancée ship I don't know how to call it, what to say, but yeah, so that's happening. And then our songs are coming out and we're presenting at convention. It's just there's a lot on the go, but it's a lot of rewarding work that we're doing and we're really excited about the magazine. We were laughing about the fun ideas that we had sharing together, so this has been a lot of fun this week.
Speaker 3:That's right, I'm just restarting Chrome.
Speaker 2:Okay, we had little mate Doberman and the boy Doberman had hip dysplasia and so he couldn't be shown and he was de-sexed. But my father was a bit precious about dogs getting neutered, so he had a. The dog had a vasectomy, which in in the 80s the sort of scoffed at and nearly fell off his chair. Anyway, this dog had a vasectomy, but basically it just meant that his testicles were disconnected, didn't stop the hormones from roaring through him. So every time his sister came in season and because she was a show dog she couldn't be de-sexed Every time she came in season they went at it hammer and tongs.
Speaker 2:I was like, oh my dog, it was Lordy, lordy. That was a sight to be seen. And for the first week he would be nagging at her, saying come on, come on, come on, come on. And she'd be going go away, go away, go away, go away. And then the middle week they'd just be at it and it's like, oh my God. And then the second, the third week he'd be exhausted and she'd be nagging at him, going come on, come on, come on, come on. And he'd just be lying in a corner puffing because it completely shagged out.
Speaker 6:Well, my joke was like you know, first you don't have the parts, but honestly, trying to hump her, you're going to throw your hip out, buddy.
Speaker 9:Yeah.
Speaker 2:That's it.
Speaker 4:So we are now in the show called Only Pause. Sorry, I'm taking a little bit of a turn.
Speaker 3:I crashed, I crashed. I come back. I don't even know what's happening on live.
Speaker 2:So we were talking about Chesney taking over the world.
Speaker 6:Oh, oh, there we go. And then we were talking about vasectomies for dogs, and you know, this is the subscription service you need to have.
Speaker 3:What does Donna say? Give the people what they want. Isn't that Donna's catchphrase for us? Oh my God.
Speaker 6:Sorry, pet chat after dark.
Speaker 2:It's not dog hair. Oh my God, I could put my finger over the camera and then it'd be dark, but you know.
Speaker 9:You're only 499 a month. You too can have your only pods.
Speaker 3:Yeah Well, I don't know, maybe we need to up our subscription on Twitter from $1 a month. Chris, were you doing a wrap up and then, because I crashed, things went off the rails? Is that what happened?
Speaker 4:Jamie just started talking. Oh and then I, just because you're vanished.
Speaker 2:You vanished.
Speaker 3:It's okay, we got. You should see how many more people are listening now when Jamie started talking about vasectomies. So people are like boy, this is interesting, we should listen. All of them I have no idea how I'm going to edit this, because I'm recording this for the podcast.
Speaker 9:It's the Australian accent. Does it every time.
Speaker 2:I love you Donna.
Speaker 9:Did. Oh, jamie, all right.
Speaker 3:I think I'm going to wrap up, if that's okay.
Speaker 4:Everybody, but sounds amazing.
Speaker 3:All right, wrap up. Where's my wrap up music? Let's see, here we go. I got the wrap up music. Oh what this is for another wrap up.
Speaker 4:Is that for the only pause? Yeah, rapper, there we go.
Speaker 3:Yeah, here we go. This is the correct wrap up music. This was hilarious. This was tons of fun. Our multicast continues to be a hoot. People can listen to the audio on Twitter. They can watch the video on any other stream. We just need to figure out what's going on with the Instagram people. They come for a few seconds and then peace out. So, anyways, if you listen to us on Instagram, thank you. And for the Facebook listeners we see you. Thank you also, and for anybody watching the replay you got this far, congratulations. That's a lot to get through. I'm probably excited about what's to come. Tuesday side chat continues and we are doing our multicast for science chat, and we have Dr Ibrahim, who is a paleontologist who discovered spinosaurus.
