Speaker 3:

Hello science and pet enthusiasts, Welcome to Pet Chat. My name is Jason Zakowski. I'm the dog dad of Bunsen Beaker, the science dogs on social media. My co-host is Hi, bear.

Speaker 4:

I'm Chris Zakowski and I am the dog mom to Bunsen Beaker and the cat mom to Ginger.

Speaker 3:

Welcome to our live show, which we multicast across a whole bunch of different platforms. You can listen to us live on Twitter Audio, we are live on Twitter Spaces and Twitter Video, and we are live on Instagram and we hear live on Facebook. So hello to everybody. Welcome to Pet Chat Live on video with us. Right now I believe we have Kristen and Jamie, so hello, welcome. I haven't quite figured out how to just have Chris and I until the community sharing. So well, you're welcome to be on video. Who knows who else will show up on live video and everybody listening on audio only Welcome.

Speaker 3:

We have a couple of really fun announcements, so I think my story will be more of the announcement and then I'll throw it at Chris for her story. So behind the scenes, the Pop-Pack are Pop-Pack patrons. They know about this that every January and February we produce two new vultures of parliament songs. So Beaker has that fake band called Vultures of Parliament and I wrote a couple more songs. The community, the Pop-Pack community, has actually heard a little bit of it. I think they're going to be awesome and those songs are going to release in end of March probably. Now the fun thing is that we want to include as many people as possible in what we are going to be releasing or working on. That will hopefully come out around the end of March and that is a fake magazine called Rolling Bone. So instead of Rolling Stone it's going to be Rolling Bone and it's going to be just like Rolling Stone, where there's interviews with bands and like opinion pieces and everything that's in a Rolling Stone. But it's going to be pet related as a spoof, and the community has already they have already done this little forum and in the next day or two we'll be releasing this forum on social media where you can submit your pet to be part of the fake magazine, and it's going to be about 24 pages. We're hoping to do it full color. It'll be a pre-sale, so we're not looking to get hundreds and hundreds of copies of this. This is going to be kind of a fun thing.

Speaker 3:

I've already wrote a bunch. I've already wrote a bunch of it and I'm working on it as we go. I just want to give a shout out to some people who've already finished it. So, like Paula, paula's in there. Paula's got some dogs in there. We've got Anna Cerey Poochki, then we've got Dawn. Dawn's in there. Jamie, jamie, I read your submission. Yep, jamie's got some stuff in there, and Mary Mary Ryder, so that went to our community first and we'll pull up, post the link.

Speaker 3:

It's a Google forum and if you want to be part of it you just have to say you want to be part of it and maybe what you'd like your pet to do in the Rolling Bone magazine, and there's a couple of categories that I'll just read really quickly. So I did some research. I've never, you know, before Chris and I decided to do this. I have to admit I've never read a Rolling Stone magazine and I had to ask Chris about Rolling Stone. She knew way more than me.

Speaker 3:

So there's going to be music reviews. There's going to be dog, cat and pet politics. So it's going to be like, obviously not human politics, it's going to be like the politics of pets, right, you know, like maybe a pet wants second breakfast or something that interview with that Entertainment. There'll be a movie starring one of your pets or maybe they will review it Style. So maybe there's some new pet fashions that are going to be reviewed by style columnist. There'll be some opinion columns and then, of course, some glamour shots.

Speaker 3:

So Chris and I will do the writing. If you want to have your dog in there, we'll have that out on social media. It'll be a lot of fun. And of course we're going to. There's Bunsen Chris has got Bunsen right there and of course we're going to keep. We'll keep the prices low as possible, but it's all in celebration of vultures of parliament. I think it'll be a lot of fun. Oh, jen is requested. Sure, we can bring Jen up. That's fine. Chris has got her hands full. Okay, so that's my story, because my story was just like a big announcement, which is kind of fun. I'll throw to you, chris, if you're ready to share your Bunsen and Beaker story, and then we'll go to the community.

Speaker 4:

So this week we presented at teachers convention here in Red Deer, alberta, in our community, and we took Bunsen and Beaker there. There was a little bit of a shenanigan to begin with and I think this is what Jody Ramp runs into because we were going to present in a room and they said, nope, there's no dogs allowed in the lab. And I was like, oh no, but we figured it out and we were able to get a room in a dance studio and it was really good. The dogs had a great time, they were on their best behavior and we shared about the power of positivity of pets in the classroom.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it was the second time for that presentation and Bunsen did. Bunsen was a rock star, so he went from person to person. He was very personable. Beaker struggled a bit more this time. I think it was because of in the dance studio we were surrounded by mirrors so she was seeing like gold retrievers everywhere and there were these pinpoint lights that were reflecting off of everybody's shiny bits and Beaker was wanting to chase some of the lights. So she still did great, but she was more okay than a good dog. But she still loved seeing people, but Bunsen was a rock star.

Speaker 3:

And then, of course, it was very cool to share our dogs with fellow educators and also give them some really good information about pets in the classroom. So I think Chris, being on live video, is going to be in and out, if you see, because she's dealing with Bunsen and Beaker during toddler time. I'm not sure what's going on there. So just a reminder Chris and I do have a shorter time today. We have to stop PetChat right at seven o'clock and then we're out. So if you've just tuned into PetChat, welcome to our multicast. So we have live on Twitter spaces or X spaces and then we're also live on Twitter video and Facebook and also Instagram all at the same time.

Speaker 3:

And one more, I think, funny thing that I'll just mention and then we'll get to community sharing is I made a little reel of. It was just a little reel that was about seven seconds long and that's on Instagram and it was like Bunsen and Bunsen saved Beaker from my coyote, right? It's that story and for some reason that blew up on Facebook, because whatever you post on Instagram, if you have a Facebook page, they're linked and it went bananas on Facebook. I think it's got 1.2 million views or something insane like that. And there are hundreds and hundreds of comments and most of the comments are like good boy Bunsen, good job Bunsen. But then some people are not believing that Bunsen saved Beaker from my coyote, like as if they were there to disprove me. Some people wanted video proof of it and I was like I wasn't wearing my GoPro when this happened, like I was more worried about Beaker. And then people are kind of confused.

Speaker 3:

Depending on where you are in the world, coyotes are very different sizes. Yes, the average coyote is not super big. The average coyote is about 30, 35 pounds. But we have chunky coyotes in Alberta, canada, because we're close to the Rocky Mountains and coyotes and wolves can breed together. Occasionally there's a bunch of those that breed like a multi, like a mixed breed coyote wolf, and they're on the eastern coast of the United States all the way up, and we have them up in Alberta too. So the coyote that went after Beaker was definitely bigger than Beaker. Anyways, chris has Ginger Cam going on live video right now. Anyways, the good thing about when a video goes viral like that, our content just blows up, is the looky-loos come out of the woodwork and they're kind of silly comments. Fewer fuel, extra content that I can make in response. I've already got some funny ideas to use all of the looky-loos comments against themselves. Okay, so, as again, chris, do you have any more stories, or should we go to community sharing because we've got a shorter time period today?

Speaker 4:

Well, Ginger went on a walk with us.

Speaker 3:

Oh, right, Okay yeah.

Speaker 4:

So I wanted to share a little bit about that, okay. Just that she was really excited to get into her backpack and come with us.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, she actually jumped inside it again.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, she loves it, she loves the backpack, she loves coming on the walk. So that happened and other than that, it's been a really good week with the dogs and with Ginger and everything. That's all I really have to share. Well, just that. I love the video of her Ginger wrapping herself in the dog bandana.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, bunsen's dog bandana. She was like just couldn't get enough of his smell.

Speaker 4:

Oh the dunk or oh the Bunsen.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. So I just really love that.

Speaker 3:

So silly, okay. So we'll go to community sharing If you would like to share a story or ask a question, and then we'll go to our live folks too, so you can also put a question in chat, because the chat is connected Twitter, live video and Facebook. The chat is connected and if you're watching on Instagram, I'm like periodically jumping back and forth to see if people have comments and loving Ginger cam. Oh, what time is it there? It's one point. It's one am here. Okay, thanks, liam. So we do have some Instagram comments. I have to jump back and forth from window to window, so it's not the easiest. Sarah, I see your hands up. Hello, we'll go to you, and then we'll go to Jen and then to Paula and then we'll go to a live one. Hi, sarah, long time no hear.

Speaker 1:

I'm doing really well. I was so happy to hear that you guys had a great time with the puppies and taking them and letting teachers play. I just loved all that content. But I wanted to ask I've never heard of a wolf and coyote mating. Is that called a why?

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, it's called a why? Oh, you're a coyote. I just made that up.

Speaker 1:

I thought it was a coy wolf or something like that.

Speaker 3:

It's a legit thing. That's why the coyotes on the east side of the United States are bigger, as they've bred with wolves, yeah, and that we do have them in Alberta. There's not very many, but I took a video. They're bigger. They're just way bigger yeah.

Speaker 1:

Like a wolf, or do they look like a coyote? They look like a chunky coyote.

Speaker 3:

Like they have. They're just bigger coyotes. I would say they're not. They're not as similar to a wolf, they're more similar to a coyote. I'd run for my life. Yeah, Jen your hands up. Did you have a comment there?

Speaker 6:

I would run for my life too, and is that the correct scientific term? I?

Speaker 3:

was. I was looking it up because somebody was like trying to fact check me and I was like I was pretty sure that, yeah, a coyote wolves exists. Yeah, they're called the. They're called the coy wolf. It's a canine hybrid descended from coyotes, eastern wolves and gray wolves and dogs, so it's like everything that's dog related all got jiggy together and that's what it is, and they're just a little bit bigger than the average coyote. Okay, we got some thumbs up. Diane says flatter coat, longer snout on coyotes. Yeah, so, yeah, the average coyotes, like 30, 35 pounds. And when beaker got attacked by the coyote it was way bigger than her. I don't know what to tell people. It was bigger than beaker and she was a teenage dog, so she wasn't full grown. Um, and that's when Bunsen put the run on it and he was the big hero. So I think she was a little bit younger than that. Jay, she was a little tiny puppy, not tiny, tiny, but she was a teen.

Speaker 4:

She was like seven months.

Speaker 3:

She would have been 25, 30 pounds herself and she's little to begin with. Like, yeah, people have gom retrievers that are big, big guys, like I don't know. Like I don't know, I think she was a little too big to begin with. Like, yeah, people have gom retrievers that are big, big guys like 80 pound dog Beakers pocket size. She's just little right now. What is she? 50 pounds 55 pounds.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yeah, so she's just a we call her our pocket sized retriever. She's just a little gom retriever, so when she was a teenage dog she was even littler. So, yeah, okay, sarah, are you? Was that your question? Are you good?

Speaker 1:

Yes, that was my question. I'd never heard of such a thing.

Speaker 3:

And I did catch a little bit. You got to talk to Elon Musk the other day. That was very cool.

Speaker 1:

That was very, very cool, that was something.

Speaker 6:

And can I, Sarah, you did a great job, especially with getting him to admit it was the best space ever he had.

Speaker 1:

See, I wish you would have requested, Jason, what brought you up?

Speaker 3:

Oh, I was okay, just to listen. I think it was the other lady that organizes, catherine, is that her name? I don't know her very well at all. Oh, super good. Yeah, she did a good job. I was just there to listen to make a long story short.

Speaker 1:

Well, I think that he needs more dogs in his life, and he especially needs Bunsen and Beaker. So Bunsen and Beaker can solve every problem in the world.

Speaker 3:

I agree. Okay, thanks, sarah. We'll go to Jen and then Paula, and then we'll go to one of our live folks here and, if you're on, live Kunu and Chesney just joined, so we'll go to Jen. Hey, jen, hello.

Speaker 6:

Hello, I love the rolling bone idea. That's great.

Speaker 3:

It's going to be so fun.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I just. I think we talked about this before, but you do realize that people under 30 may have no idea what you're talking about.

Speaker 3:

I know that I've done detailed analytics on our followers and most of our followers are not under 30.

Speaker 6:

That's a good thing. Okay, good, but I'm looking forward to it. Great idea.

Speaker 3:

Jamie's only 26,. Right, oh, she's laughing, okay.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, well, you'll get the occasional person you know. See that in my classes there's like this old young person, if that makes sense, going. Yeah, you know, and everyone else is looking at me. I have no idea what you're talking about. Even he put a picture of Mick Jagger. They have no idea who he is.

Speaker 3:

Here's a funny story, jen, one of my pres I do. To make a long story short, I developed this huge game that I run in my classroom for a unit, where I turned my classroom into Hogwarts and I sort the kids into the different houses of Hogwarts and they compete against each other. So I now present that to teachers because it's so successful and it's very well attended. A lot of people have a love for that whole universe. Oh, we have somebody. I can't even see that down below, sorry. I there we go. Perfect, we got another person to join To make and just just to wrap it up. My question to the teachers are like who saw Harry Potter in the theaters? And some of the young baby teachers are so young. The Harry Potter films were out of theater by the time they started teaching. So they loved the books, they loved the movies, but they never actually got to see the movies in theaters because there's such baby babies. Isn't that wild, chris?

Speaker 6:

You know, what I've started doing is just I brought some, you know those wake up chocolates, and if someone gets my old cultural reference, I throw one at them.

Speaker 3:

That's a great idea. Oh, beaker's having a little bark. We've got Georgia and Atlas on the camera now with Kuno, so we've got a couple dogs now on live. Alright, thanks, jen. We'll go to Paula and then to one of our live Listeners and then the Dr Tracy, paula, hello.

Speaker 7:

Hi, how's everybody doing tonight?

Speaker 3:

So good, good to hear from you.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, good to see everybody too. I've been kind of switching back and forth to live Twitter and nice to see all the dogs. Yeah, chris and Kristen, everybody and Jamie, you had a video, didn't you? Jason, and the coyote, because you were running. Yeah, you had panic in your voice. Yeah, you could hear that coyote yelling in the background. I mean, that wasn't fake.

Speaker 3:

I took the video after I leashed up beaker and Bunsen came back Totally non-pulse that he just like ran a coyote off beaker. He was like right.

Speaker 3:

I Remember like he chased it up over the top of the hill and I thought, oh god, like what if there's a whole pack of them? And I was like what do I do? I just had to trust he was big and strong enough that he'd be able to protect himself, because I had to stay with beaker she was little and then, like he just comes trotting back right, doot-to-do, and like nothing happened, like it was just all in the day's work. And then, yeah, that's when the coyote or coyote started to yell at me and I was spooked, right Like I saw my. I like I love beaker so much, all of our people who have pets love their pets so much, and I just, literally, was like a minute ago, I just thought my dog was gonna get killed and the coyotes were yelling at me. I was like no, it's time to go. Yeah, that's that video, paula. Yeah.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, that's what I kind of saw it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 7:

No, and wasn't Bunsen he was. You didn't get that on film, but no you know, roughed up, he got all.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think in the video Cuz Bunsen.

Speaker 7:

I mean burnt a Bunsen's. I always call Bernie's Mountain Dogs Bunsen's. Now they puff up when they get angry or not angry, but scary looking, yeah, but anyway, but my, I just have a quick little story. I'll share it. I'll do. I know Chris has kind of got a lot of stuff I think I can share with the community here, right? So, wait, do I? What do I do here? When I share it, it's just share it via direct. No, I do, I forget.

Speaker 3:

You want to put it up in the nest, is that?

Speaker 7:

which one do I do I check, just share.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah. So you do the little up arrow on Twitter and then you should have the option to put it in the nest because your speaker All right and I just share with the community. Not the community. No, oh. Wait a minute, I can do it, I'm on. I'm on Twitter now.

Speaker 4:

Okay, just the most wholesome audio show on X. That's what you click after you click. Share tweet.

Speaker 7:

Okay, I've got share, but I don't know. Okay, there is okay, now I got it. Okay, sorry, it's been such a while since I did it and I was trying to be helpful and it's all good. It was Tixie's birthday, oh yeah, yeah, she turned one and so we had a big celebration and Gave her a cupcake, and was that? Don't delete anything, I swear.

Speaker 7:

I haven't seen one thing. That dog will spit out. Yet you know that I've had well, almost one year because her, her gotcha days in May, but with her she was born on Tuesday, so it was one one year already. So we sang happy birthday and she had a good time. So she didn't know what was going on. But if it involves food she was all in. But anyway, but Thanks for everything and I can't wait for the rolling bone. That sounds great and I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. So we'll have to see who graces the cover and you'll have to make them a rock star.

Speaker 3:

So you, betcha, I've already, I've I've done about seven pages. I got into the groove of it and I love creative writing, so I have some fun ideas and I yeah, I'm also super, super excited to see what our cartoonist comes up for the new, the news.

Speaker 1:

I'm not gonna spoil it, so because I'm terrible at that Secret, I know, yeah, chris.

Speaker 3:

Chris will tell me I'm giving all the secrets away again.

Speaker 7:

That's right. That's right. Well, thank you so much. I'll let the other speakers go because I know you're short on time and thanks everybody for the happy wishes for Trixie's birthday. And just a little shout out to teen because I know she heard her fingers this week and.

Speaker 6:

I.

Speaker 7:

Think, but she's doing okay. So cuz keifer, I guess, was going for her hand, rather thinking was a treat or something, and she got nailed. So yeah, that's painful. I know what that feels like. I've gotten bitten before not by choice, believe me, but yeah, so we'll send her happy wishes.

Speaker 3:

It's. It's a thing. Because dogs have such powerful like we, they live in our homes, like Jamie's cuddling one. We've got Kuno there, beakers on the floor. Georgia and Atlas are just hanging out like those are predators, right, and they just like hang out in her house and you know they, they. I've been nipped before by Bunsen when when he's been excited to get a treat when he was a little younger. Yeah, it's, you know, if he was going any harder it would be dangerous.

Speaker 7:

So yeah, oh, it's no fun. I was delivering papers as a kid and dog was real docile and I dropped the paper off. The minute I stepped off the stairs and turned my back to it, it came up and it bit me in the leg, oh no, so that was painful and I don't know what. I never did anything to provoke it, so I don't know if it just did. It wasn't a bad bite, but it, you know she, she got me good, but it's, they're not fun, I'll tell you no.

Speaker 7:

No, all right guys. Have a good week everybody.

Speaker 3:

You, betcha, and if you're just tuning in, there is a really cool huge deal at Barkin beyond supply comm right now. Use pet chat 25 as the coupon and if you anything you buy right now from bark and beyond supply comm, you're gonna save 25 percent. That like never happens outside of like big holidays or anything like that. So double check bark and beyond supply comm. If you're watching live, it's there's a little chiron Scrolling down there at the bottom. Okay, we're gonna go to somebody on live if they'd like to speak. Jamie's probably been weighing the longest. Jamie, do you want to give us any updates?

Speaker 8:

Hi everybody. Yes, this is River of Doom sitting in the hammock with me. He is Our sucky pit bull cross. You can just about do anything to him and he'll put up with it. It has rained almost non-stop here for the last week. We've probably had About 180 mils of rain. So what's that? Six inches, seven, eight inches of rain in the last week, and that's on top of everything else. So this is a wet, our wet season here. So everything is green and dripping and Squelchy. So when you walk the dogs they come back covered in mud Because Just because that's like beaker in the spring she's always wet, always muddy.

Speaker 8:

That's it. That's exactly right. And there the chickens hate it because it's just a mud puddle in their yard, but we took them, took all the dogs. We are looking after friends house for him while he's away and With all the weather that we've had, his swimming pool is green at the moment. People may have seen photos of it in the past when it's been, you know, proper Swimming pool color colored, which is, you know that, that pretty blue that everybody thinks a swimming pool pool should be, but it's Green at the moment. Hang on, I'm just gonna show you River in the in the hammock.

Speaker 3:

Oh, I love that.

Speaker 8:

So he's just stretched out and to show off his, his, his glutes anyway. So we went, we drove over. We drove over there yesterday to let the dogs have a swim and check on the pool filter and all the rest of it and we wind the windows down because it's a huge drive of a kilometer and a half to this house. So less than a mile and the windows will wound down. And as we pulled into the driveway of the house and you know going slow on a driveway, rose leapt out of the window and ran up the hill in front of the car and said ah, no.

Speaker 8:

So she's learned that you can leap out car windows when the car is moving, which is not a good thing at all. So no more windows down on the drive over for a swim, because she's a rat bag and we don't want her to hurt herself. But because it's been so wet, it's just everything squelches and there's water running down the hills. Just from the amount of water, that's happened, even though it hasn't rained here for 12 hours. So that's it for us at the moment just wet, muddy dogs and dogs in hammocks.

Speaker 3:

I love that Beaker would be in a hammock, I'm sure oh. River oh. River.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, what a sweetie, Well, Jamie sorry, no worries, I was just going to say he is such a suck and he uses his eyebrows to great effect.

Speaker 3:

Thanks, I've been throwing some comments from the live up there as we go, just so people on live can see the fun comments that are coming in from Facebook and live video on Twitter. So it's kind of a cool little program. Okay, thanks, jamie. We'll go back to audio and then we'll come back to live. Dr Tracy, you are next. If you have a story or a question, go ahead.

Speaker 2:

Actually I have two things. One, eastern Coyotes. I live in Ohio now. Yeah. They're all around us. We are surrounded by Eastern Coyotes.

Speaker 3:

And they're bigger, right Like they're bigger than the average coyote.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I used to live in Idaho and the coyotes there were so much smaller. Yeah, I was so, and I moved here and saw how big these are. They were as big as my big dogs there was. We ran into one crossing the road one day when I was walking the dogs and it looked like almost like a German Shepherd. It was that big and they had bigger prey. They had deer. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Just smaller prey, like they do in the West. And one day I was walking one of my dogs and he found a fawn's leg and like Bunsen with a moose, leg, oh no. Yeah, and he carried it all the way home. Oh no, he had everything in his mouth he wouldn't. And the other thing was I listened to that podcast about the deer. It was wonderful. Wasn't it so good oh yeah, I think it's the best one you've ever done, but so.

Speaker 9:

I got.

Speaker 2:

I got on Amazon and I ordered two copies of her book, one for myself and one for my younger granddaughter, because I think she'd like to read it.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, and she sent Dr Boutier sent us a copy of the Dilly the Deer and that interview was like really long and I had to cut it down.

Speaker 1:

Oh.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, she had, she had her. She had a couple stories from her time as an ER vet doc that were like absolutely powerful but kind of gruesome and I don't think appropriate for like a general audience. So I don't know the best way to get that out to people but I couldn't in good conscience put it on the podcast. But they were like very gripping stories because when you're an ER doc, like every day is calamity right. You don't. You don't get the same kind of things a general practitioner vet would get. That is yeah. So what what Dr Tracy's talking about? That's our newest episode of the science podcast. I'll just maybe share the screen so people can see it.

Speaker 2:

Everybody should listen. It's really really wonderful she was in. She is an amazing vet. I think she's retired now, but it was. It was really interesting.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I'm just, I'm just sharing my screen. We do have our, like our podcast is is kind of a kind of a big thing on good pods. We're cleaning up in science and yeah, we'd love everybody to listen to it If that's up up your jam. Yeah, it's episode four. Okay, thanks, doc, jen, go ahead.

Speaker 6:

Just a quick comment about those podcasts. Um, actually today was the first time I listened to them. That's a lot of work you've done. I mean they're out on no and they're and they're really interesting a lot of topics. So, um, I highly recommend them. Um learned a lot.

Speaker 3:

So Thanks.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I don't know how many were on season six. I looked at how many episodes I produced and it's like over 300 or something. Bananas like that, Um, it's a lot. That's a lot For me. I like doing it and it uh, because I get to research science, it keeps me on my toes and it's great for professional development as a teacher.

Speaker 6:

And it's great, you know, I was listening to it and the different topics you have, uh, it's like at least when you're bored, there's always science, right? Yeah?

Speaker 3:

It's never the same.

Speaker 6:

That's right.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, dr Batera was a great, amazing guest. So, dr Tracy, also thank you for you know, highlighting that episode, I appreciate that. Um, we're going to go back to live and then we'll go to Richard, who has a hand up on audio, so it. Does anybody on live want to speak? Uh, that could be, uh, Kristen, or or Marla with Kuno and Chesney. Chris, are you okay? You're good, you're good. Marla, did you want to highlight anything? You're doing some awesome tricks with Kuno and Chesney right now on live.

Speaker 4:

But I also want to go ahead, marla, yeah.

Speaker 9:

Actually it's funny because Kuno sat there and I left him in front of the camera for like 10 minutes and went and started doing dishes and listening to you and he just stayed there. Oh, what a good boy. But now they've been kind of like there's a bully stick that the two of them have been back and forth over for the last little bit. So she looked up and came into the room so he took his opportunity to go and snack. Oh yeah, so that leaves this little one. We've had a pretty good drool.

Speaker 4:

Look at that drool I know she's a good

Speaker 9:

drool. I heard that's changed. We had a really neat week though. The dogs took the city counselors on an accessibility tour or at least a couple of them and it was kind of an eye opener.

Speaker 9:

Kuno and I went to the north end of the city and took a city counselor, you know, on a bit of an audit of a rec center and then kind of around her community and pointed out of a few barriers. And then we came back to our end of town and another couple counselors came out for a wander with Chesney and I and we actually put them in a manual wheelchair and had them go through some of our flooded curb ramps and, you know, deal with some of our sidewalks and things like that, and so it was a really good experience for, I think, the city counselors. They learned that trying to propel yourself is a lot harder than you would think and that some of the barriers are actually quite scarier. So that was an interesting experience and I think it was good for Chesney to get out with some different people and different mobility aids. She's not used to working around multiple wheelchairs, so that was some good training.

Speaker 3:

That's awesome.

Speaker 9:

And Monday they're doing presentations for Norquist College. So that's that's what we're up to being super busy in and doing dog stuff and dog advocacy. And you know we do a lot of the disability advocacy but we do a lot of breed advocacy too, because there's so many people that still have that mindset that, oh my goodness, it's a rottweiler, it might eat me, and I'm like, no, no, if anybody's going to bite you, it's going to be me. I'm the scary one, I'm they're way nicer than I am. And but there's still.

Speaker 9:

People have systemic beliefs about dogs, the same way they do about people. And when they aren't familiar with something or the only experience that they have is, you know, maybe they had a bad experience with one dog, or they've seen it on TV or things like that. And it's funny, like rottweilers when they're on TV you don't usually see them in super lovey roles. A lot of times they're cast in that role where they are chasing somebody with their teeth showing and they're going to tackle him, and people forget that the reason why they get cast in that role is because they're not actually going to eat the person. There's control.

Speaker 3:

They're there. You can train them not to eat the person I love it.

Speaker 9:

Exactly so they. I don't think they like chewing on people personally.

Speaker 3:

No, I don't know if I could even train Bunsen to do that. I can see you can train a dog to do anything.

Speaker 9:

You can Like. You know, you use a target and you teach them to jump for the target and that's how you teach them to do that movie tackle. Right.

Speaker 9:

And, like, I do a lot of target training with my dogs because I can't get to places, so I will teach them. Actually I'll even show you guys, what I use. I just use, like these little rubber vibration pads that look like that and I'll teach the dog to touch this with a paw, touch this with its nose, and that way don't choke on that, oh goodness, learn to chew. Once they learn to touch the pad and that they're always going to get rewarded when they touch it, it builds a ton of value in it. And then I can take the pad.

Speaker 9:

And if I need the dog to go somewhere new, like, say, I want to teach them to load up the stairs into a bus Well, I can't get up the stairs into a bus, but I can throw this onto the bus and they'll figure out how to go and put their paw on it. They do that part on their own because they know the end goal is get your paw on the target. So that's the same thing that you do with the movies. Once they learn to touch the target, you put the target on the person's clothing and they're going to go and they're going to nose that target. Put a paw on the target. And that's the same way we teach opening power doors and all that kind of stuff. It's all targets. Oh, we're all going for that last piece of bully stick.

Speaker 3:

That's a bunch of beef going for the last piece of the bully stick.

Speaker 9:

That's because bully sticks are like the best thing ever, and now we're leaving to see if anybody has left pieces of bully stick anywhere else. But yeah, so that's what we've been up to, and keeping out of trouble, I wanted to pop in and say hi, I don't know if you can hear that in the background. That's my dog drinking. They're so loud when they drink.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, bunsen is an extremely loud drinker. Oh, he's on camera. Right now too, he's.

Speaker 7:

Oh my God, hi Bunsen.

Speaker 3:

There's a bunch of waves. He can, but he's not on command. Like Kuno, he knows lots of tricks, but you have to pay him for his tricks.

Speaker 9:

Well, that is okay. It is perfectly okay to pay for tricks. I mean, would you work for money?

Speaker 3:

I do.

Speaker 9:

And it's only fair that dogs work for money too. Okay, Kuno.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, he does a little wave. He's built like a bus so he can't lift his arm too high. That's that burner like square chest, so he doesn't have the same kind of dexterity that other dogs do.

Speaker 9:

We get that with the Rottweilers too. We really have to work on strength training to get them to be able to hold their upper body up.

Speaker 3:

Right, yeah.

Speaker 9:

So it's a lot of conditioning Awesome.

Speaker 3:

Marla, is it okay if we go to a couple other people? Chris and I have to run the room till seven. We have absolutely.

Speaker 9:

we just wanted to pop in and say hi, Thanks for having us.

Speaker 3:

You are welcome anytime and thank you for the work that you do and you're an inspiration to us all, so thank you for coming.

Speaker 9:

Okay, have a good night.

Speaker 3:

You bet We'll go back to audio, richard. You have your hands up, richard, hello, and then we'll go back to live.

Speaker 5:

Hello everybody here in mid-southern Ohio. All of the coyotes that I see around here are average adult size between 45 and 60 pounds, 60 pounds when being a very large one. Most of them are around 45 pounds.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, well, that's good to know. I'm sure even if there was a 45-pound coyote that put the run on Beaker and Bunson had to save her, that was still way bigger than Beaker was at the time. So, yeah, yeah, like it was. Yeah, so, richard, that's good to know. Thank you, okay, kristen, over to you on live, go ahead.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, so we were talking about tricks. So, as you can see, georgia and Atlas are behaving. They're so good. They are in place right now, which is one of my favorites, because they're not supposed to move out of that place until they get a command. Atlas will usually wait for the command. Georgia usually goes to sleep because she doesn't care, but they're alert right now just because they hear everybody talking and everything. But I was just curious if anybody else uses this place for their dogs.

Speaker 3:

We do that sometimes with Bunsen and Beaker, but they're not at your level, kirsten or Kristen for Georgia and Atlas. So that's something that we can keep working on, and if you're on audio only you're missing. Maybe the live video has. There are two dogs that are just like being good dogs and they're on a bed or something. Is that what that is?

Speaker 10:

So they're on a. Sorry, it's covered up right now, but they're on one of those. Oh gosh, what do you call it? Like an elevated bed?

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 10:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

They're good. Is Georgia the boxer, or is that?

Speaker 10:

Atlas yes.

Speaker 3:

Georgia is the boxer.

Speaker 10:

Oh, Georgia Say hello.

Speaker 3:

Oh, they're sweethearts Sometimes.

Speaker 10:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 3:

Well, that's like Bunsen and Beaker they're really good dogs and some some days they're just okay. That's what we say.

Speaker 10:

Right Georgia, are you a good wait? No, no, are you a good girl?

Speaker 6:

You a good girl.

Speaker 10:

I'm a good boy, can you free? Good, there you go.

Speaker 3:

What Bunsen what Bunsen is a rock star at is. I'm going to put him on solo. Chris has got Bunsen. Right now, bunsen's favorite thing to do is to lie down and not move. He is so good at that because he will do anything to lie down and not have to work so he can hold his down, stay forever. It's just his favorite, he's got everything to do.

Speaker 3:

So it's not the. It's not the best trick in the world, but I'm for. For some dogs it's really hard to do that. Like they want to pop up, they want to go. Look, that's Bunsen's best trick is down, stay, awesome, okay. So I think we'll do some wrap up, because Chris and I do have to go right at the top of the hour. So Bark and beyond has a $25 gift certificate. Is that correct? We're doing that, Chris $20 gift card.

Speaker 2:

So, hey, how's it going? He's. The comment from Instagram is Jason, I'm getting a Bernice mountain dog after our wedding.

Speaker 3:

A lot of inspiration from you and Bunsen. Do you have any advice? And my advice is you will have an amazing dog. Bernice mountain dogs are an amazing, amazing creatures. I would say do all the training and socialization that you have time to get, if you're. If that's going to be a puppy, get that dog into puppy classes as soon as possible. We play all of that. We did that with Bunsen. We did, and we kind of got derailed with beaker, but that's why Bunsen is so good with the public, as we had him exposed to other dogs, we had him exposed to tons of different people and then we did as much you know, as much training as possible. So that would be in my advice.

Speaker 3:

Also, bernice, mountain dogs generally don't shouldn't be run Like. If you're a jogger or you like to cycle, that's a dog breed that you shouldn't make run with you. They like to kind of go their own speed. They're very quick, but we were told that by the Swiss family that we got Bunsen from, that they they're not a dog breed that you jog with or run with, like maybe a border collie or like Jamie's dogs. Like Jamie, you run with your dogs, right, or you run with a dog. Okay, yeah, I could run with beaker. Go ahead, jamie.

Speaker 8:

I run with river, river and Rose yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah yeah, some dogs are. Is that your? Is Rose the Kelpie has the kelpie in her.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, rose is the border kelpie.

Speaker 6:

So here she is.

Speaker 8:

Yeah, there she is.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, they're. They're built for running.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Kuno's. I don't know if that's Kuno. That's Kuno Kuno's doing some tricks. Um, so we have, oh, we got some things in private chat. Yes, okay, it's a lot for me to monitor. I'm monitoring, like a screen, I'm monitoring Twitter and I'm monitoring, monitoring, uh, instagram. Uh, that's great, thank you. We're very excited. I'm very excited, too, for you. I can't wait. Okay, so we've got one person. Please add me to the draw. One, two, three, four, so that's four or five people. And then we've got 23 people. So, yeah, it looks like we've got about 27 people to do the draw. Random number 27.

Speaker 4:

Did you see that we have 24 people in our uh Twitter space? Yeah, I did.

Speaker 3:

I added that yeah, perfect.

Speaker 3:

Okay, I got 14. So we didn't get to the live numbers. Um, we're going to. Somebody won on Twitter spaces, and that's 14, 48, 12,. 14 is, uh, elaine Hughes. Elaine Hughes, I'm sorry if I'm saying your name wrong. That's Elaine on on Twitter, elaine HULSE underscore. You have won the prize from Barken beyond supplycom, so congratulations. Speaker 3:

Bunsen likes to participate, so that's all I'm going to say he's as soon as Chris starts talking he wants to talk to sometimes. Okay, so we'll do our little wrap up. Uh, if I can find the wrap up music there, it is there. It is on my soundboard. Um, you should see this. This setup I think I can show live. Maybe there's my ooh soundboard. Thank you for coming to pet chat everybody, um, everybody listening on audio. So appreciate you coming to the show.
