Oh, I have two. I have two excellent stories.

Excellent, the first one is okay, I'm gonna set this up. Jason came home and he said um, he's sniffing, why, why does the house smell like manure?

Speaker 2 3:14

Yeah, no, I grew up in rural Alberta, so I've smelled a barn or two. I'll tell you that.

Speaker 3 3:20

You said why does the house smell like manure? And I said hmm, don't you think it smells more like hay?

Speaker 2 3:28

No.

Speaker 3 3:29

You said. You said, yes, kind of it smells like a barn. And I said, well, funny story, because I'd been taking the dogs out for their walks because Jason's been busy and getting home later and later. So we had an upright pool in the front yard. Oh yeah, yeah, okay.

Upright pool in the yard and it was taken down and at the end of my walk Beaker and Bunsen were standing on the ground that the pool was on and it obviously doesn't have grass on it right now and it was covered in tarp but now it's like rotten ground or weird ground or hay ground.

I don't know, it's become silage, chris.

Oh, it's silage.

Yeah, fermented hay like grass?

Yeah it's fermented. And that's definitely what Bunsen and Beaker were rolling in. Now Bunsen started first and he was like oh, I'm rolling in this, and Beaker's like what are you doing? What's happening? And then she went wild. She went wild to roll in it, and you know what I did? I let them roll in it because I didn't know that they would be Eureka. When I brought them in the house, they were so bad.

It was pretty bad. It was not a good smell. Well, it smelled like a barn in our home, but it's an excellent story.

I guess so Excellent for everybody to hear not for me coming home and smelling silage in our house.

Okay, it didn't smell for very long and Bunsen didn't smell as bad as Beaker, no, but what happened? So? Then? This is funny. Then, after Beaker was rolling in it, she was really smelly. Bunsen knows so much, but he really dug it in there. She was like right down to right down to her skin and we've been putting the cone on her because of her hot spot on her neck or on her cheek, and so then the cone also smelled of silage.

So, bad Rot and hay, and that's why I think Ginger was going into her cone, because it was like a catnip moment for the cat, even though it isn't catnip. She was behaving that way inside the cone, but then she also ginger was also behaving that way. When we came back from Comic Con and Bunsen's costume, we just put it on the kitchen table and Ginger was like, oh, what's this? And she was rolling in it and doing what cats do on Bunsen's costume.

It was bizarre.

I think it's because she smelled serenadecini, but that's what I think, no.

Yeah, okay, bye, bye. So we were had a very surreal experience on Sunday. If you listen to the podcast, we did talk about this. But since you're all here, here's my story. I've mentioned and you know, you know and you've seen the photos if you follow us that Bunsen and Beaker were celebrity guests. Chris, is that what you'd call them, or special guests?

Definitely celebrity guests, because when I talked to our handler, we got a handler, I said would you consider Bunsen and Beaker a celebrity guest? And they said yes, they are a main headliner for us and we are so happy to have them.

Unexpected Adventures

Speaker 2 7:28

Yeah. So I thought we would just kind of show up and then people would say hi to them. Oh no, we had a handler and like a videographer and like a team, we had a team and they whisked us to like the VIP room and then they're like making sure we're all like comfortable and we're like, oh my God, we're just what's going, this is good. And then it was time for them to go down to the red carpet to take photos with people. And we're always like, until you do the thing, you never know how your dogs are going to perform. Right, they're dogs and they're like Bunsen is very, very well trained and Beaker's pretty well trained. She's kind of a loose cannon, I'm not going to lie sometimes. And I couldn't believe how good they did. They took photos with people for 30 minutes straight almost 100 people, like Chris knows the number, like 87 or 86 people, something like that.

I don't know there was 86 people clocked.

Yeah, and there was. There was more, but I think there was close, probably closer to 100, because we were taking photos with people before the rest of the team came by and the dogs did great Like the people came in behind.

No, Jason, no no the girl at the table had a clicker.

Oh, but she wasn't. I don't. There were people want taking photos with them before she had a clicker guaranteed, guaranteed. That's what I'm saying, because I was letting people take photos with Bunsen and Beaker before they made like a system. But that's not. That's not here or there. The point is the dogs did great. There's people in cosplay and people like like with small children and the dogs were just like a rock stars and we're so proud of them that they took photos with people for that long. It was just, it was very cool. Tons of smiles. The Comic Con couldn't have been happier because they got so much media from the dogs.

And then the icing on the cake was our handlers like, okay, we have a very cool opportunity if you want to do it and it's, we will basically serenade a Chini. The voice of Ash from Pokemon would love to meet Bunsen and Beaker. And we're like, yeah, that's cool. Yes, we, we, the person that Bunsen was dressed up as that actually does the voice of the person in the giant Pokemon cartoon. So we, we said sure and we got took him through the back way, the back secret ways where all the celebrities go and pass like a massive security team to the back of where the celebrities are. And the celebrities were like walking right past Bunsen and Beaker. Like Carl Weathers walked right by us and there's I forget the little girl's name the actress who plays Leia in the Obi-Wan Disney plus show. She liked walk by Batman, bunsen and Beaker and waved at them. I think she really wanted to touch them but she didn't know if she was allowed. I don't know.

And then we're like they're the handlers, like okay, time to go. And we like exited and walked in front of all of the celebrities who were signing autographs, which was weird because we were like walking right by them while they're signing autographs and they're all like saying hello to Bunsen and Beaker. Like Jason Lee was like oh my God, it's a puppy parade. I love your dogs, they're so cute. And then he was pantomining time, trying to use pantomime, jumping over his table to see them.

And then we got to see Sarah and Sarah was like blown away and so excited If you've seen the media her face like lit up and she got down on the ground and was hugging the dogs and it was a very cool experience. So I'm kind of excited to talk about it because it was so very, very cool. But it was not what I expected at all that would happen that day. I thought it would be, you know, like a few dozen people would come and say hi to Bunsen and Beaker and that would be the end of it. But that was not it at all. It was a whole thing.

It was a whole thing, and we had Annalise to help us.

Shout out to Annalise and we've given her notice, because the Calgary Comic Con is happening in April and so she's, like it's so super excited to come.

Like stickers and one boy he ripped apart the window cling and he thought it was a sticker and he was trying to stick it to his clothes and they said oh, I'm so sorry, buddy, that's a window cling. Yeah, but you can take it and put it on your window at home.

And he was like yeah, that's not as exciting as sticking a sticker on your face.

Yes. I did not forget my story. I just wanted to tell everybody that on Thursday night we had a staff party and the staff party took place one kilometer from our house.

On the north side of the highway, no, the south side. South side of the highway, jason, yeah, yeah, to cross the highway to the south side.

Yeah, but the funny thing is that it's a kilometer away and I thought I'll just take Bunsen. It's an outdoor thing, they're going to be playing baseball. I'm not going to play baseball. I wore my crocs, which allowed me to definitely not have to play baseball, but that's it. So I took Bunsen and everybody was like, oh hi, bunsen, and they really enjoyed seeing him and he really enjoyed being out and about with people. Yeah, getting petted every four seconds. And he got to play with another little dog. A colleague brought her dog and her dog's name is Wren. Yeah, looks like a beagle type dog and what are you doing?

What are you doing? Are you typing? No, okay, sorry.

I'm just going to get the. I'm getting beaker.

Sounds like you're typing while you're trying to tell the story.

No, I'm getting beaker a chicken foot because we got those chicken feet for her, because of dog diving and how that replenishes her something or other. However, I gave Bunsen a chew and it just is lasting a little bit longer than the chew that she inhaled. So she was barking at him, so I was trying to control the barking.

So there was no barking, but I obviously sounded like I was click, clacking, typing, and I was not. But let me just continue my story. Okay, yes, so Bunsen played with Wren and at first my colleague said, oh, you know, wren's going to play a little bit shy, and then she's going to be like, okay, I'll play with you. And that's exactly what happened, like she played a little shy, a little scared, and then she was jumping up into Bunsen's face and Bunsen's like I don't know if this is how you should play.

It's giving him PTSD of beaker.

Yeah, well, jumping and like kind of punching his face Jumping up and like giving him like the one to slap, it was crazy.

Oh, and he was like what.

Yeah, but then he did the play bow and he did it yeah.

He did a few turns with her and then he's like I don't really like how you play, so I'm going to go over here. And then the other issue. The other issue is I had treats in my bunny hug. So because I want Bunsen to be in his best behavior, so I had treats in there, and so Wren obviously could smell the treats because she was jumping on me and trying to bat my bunny hug to get the treats out. So she was barking and Bunsen was not. Bunsen just was like good. And then he went and laid down and then Adam texted me, said hey, can we get macaroni on our way home? And I said what, who's picking you up? Obviously me. You didn't clear this with me.

But what does that have to do with your dog story, Chris?

Well then I had to go. I did. Oh, okay, I thought you're going to launch into like a whole macaroni story here. No, I could, but I won't, okay. Anyway, I'm super excited about having pet chat, as you can probably tell.

Uh, you know we have a puppy. We have Sammy now, and, um, I forget how old he is. He was born, uh, june 2nd, so, however old he is, um, but Sammy is our nightmare puppy. Oh no, oh, my gosh, um, potty training for him has been a nightmare. Um, he loves to, he has a potty place in our house and it's in our bedroom.

I know it's his favorite spot and, um, this morning, uh, he's gotten better. We'd take him out just before bedtime and we bring him back but and put him in bed. He, they sleep with us, but we are awakened every morning with the wonderful scent of Sammy. Oh no, and this morning my husband got up, and he was. My husband is so calm all the time, just has one mood, one level. He gets up and he said what the hell he had stepped in about nine piles of Sammy. I know we don't know what to do. We, we have tried everything. We don't feed him, but he is just determined to make up it. Yeah, it's part of his uh routine though, which is tough to break. Oh, yeah, that's oh gosh it's just, it's so hard.

And then, as we are letting him out, he likes to squat and go potty, and so he's standing at the door, the door is open for him to go, and he stops and he's like you know what this looks like a great place to pee, oh no. So he's, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's. He's. So darn cute, though, and so sweet that, uh, you know we forgive him, but this morning, at you know, 430 in the morning, uh, my husband did not find it too cute. It took us a bit, it took us longer to potty train beaker than Bunsen, for sure.

Um, yeah, and we started to limit her water and her food earlier and earlier and earlier. Um, and we started to limit her water and food earlier and earlier and that eventually helped us. So I think like we started early, like?

what time did you go to bed and when did you stop feeding?

I think when we were getting a little frustrated because it was like a week and a bit into having some trouble, um, I think we limited her water at like 4pm. She didn't get any water after 4pm. It was mostly a number one accident number, not a number two. So that's what I've read that before is like you, you feed their supper really, really early, so then they're they have to go poo before they go to bed.

If you're still having struggles, Um, does anybody know, like, how long it takes for food to cycle through a dog? Uh, I don't know.

No, I don't know the answer to that. Um, Paula's up here. I don't know if Paula can help. Yeah.

Well, I, you know what. I've walked a lot of dogs and I've seen a lot of potty problems in my life, believe you me. But anyway, um, sarah, you know, what I would do is, like Jason said, feed them early. Like I have one client, it has to be fed two, 30 in the afternoon, or three o'clock, because the dog will poop, guaranteed by between seven and nine PM, guaranteed. But it has to go into a routine. If you're feeding your now, how old is your dog? Is he still puppy, puppy or is he?

Yeah, he was born June 2nd, so, but you're, are you still feeding three?

months. Are you still not feeding three times a day, though, are you?

Speaker 4 23:24

Uh no, he gets, he gets, he won't. He's too active, so he feeds morning and evening he doesn't really eat in the afternoon.

Okay, that's good. Well, usually when they poop, they'll poop after they eat, usually because you know they'll eat and then you know within an hour they're going to want to go. So usually if they get fed in the morning, take them out, really, you know, walk them around and you'll see a routine. Start because it does happen. I don't know if anybody else can back me up on this, but I know from my own experience with dogs, and same with dinner. Sometimes they don't go right away after dinner, but it'll be at least an hour or hour and a half after could. You can kind of tell, and if you have a routine of same time that you feed them, you will see a pattern forming.

So, um, so, paula, why is it that he'll go potty after you know? After he eats in the evening, we started stop feeding him at. His last meal is at five. So, he'll go potty at about six or seven, but why are we waking up at four in the morning to piles, piles of Sammy?

Well, um, I don't know, he might be just maybe because he needs to go again, I mean. But so maybe to break that, if he's doing it consistently at that time, or in the morning you getting up and you're seeing poops, then yeah, definitely start feeding it earlier and then see if he's, you know, going to eliminate even a little bit more after, because if he's active at night after he eats and even after he poops, because if they play hard or do something or run around and having a good time, that's going to stimulate things too.

So I don't know if anybody else can add to that, but that's my experience. I would think that the earlier feed them maybe the better, because that way you can, you got to have a routine and you got to stay with around the same time all the time to feed him.

Potty Training and Puppy Mishaps

Really helps your puppy. Really, yeah, really yeah, he is. But a lot of people when we have small puppies, we put them in crates at night, because they usually won't do that where they sleep.

Yeah, that's the other thing we had with Beaker is she was. She was crate trained and that's why there wasn't a number two accident.

Yeah, it really worked.

Speaker 2 25:46

Yeah, and that's something. That's tough the first couple nights because the puppy will not like to. Usually most puppies are not a big fan of the crate.

Speaker 8 25:55

Yeah, but your puppy is still really little to get into a really Regular schedule yet. You need to wait a couple months, so it's gonna be a long haul.

Well, it was my husband, so I'm fine with him having to wake up with puppy piles and not me.

It's a good thing puppies are among the cutest things on earth, because when they're little, all of that cuteness comes with things that are not so pleasant and you just forget that. You forget like I Forget until we talk about it. I forget like we were. We were frustrated a bit with beaker, her number one. Potty training took a long time.

It did, because we would take her outside and she would come right back in and go to the water dish and refill. Yeah, that's what we kept saying refill.

Well, I did embark DNA because I thought he was golden doodle, because he's golden colored and he's really tall. Well, I got the results yesterday and he is labradoodle. He is 50% Labrador Retriever and 50% Standard Poodle, but he is really tall, so I think he got a lot of standard Poodle jeans in his nice long legs.

It was only about, oh, four feet or so and, like I said, now it's six feet.

There was no delivery notice and I Backed over the pens and the first to guess what? The first thing he said to me was why didn't you do a check around your vehicle?
