Speaker 3:

Hello pet enthusiasts. my name is Jason Sikowski. I'm the dog dad of Bunsen and Beaker, the science dogs on social media.

Speaker 2:

My co-host is Hi there, my name is Chris Sikowski and I am the dog mom of Bunsen and Beaker and the cat mom to Ginger.

Speaker 3:

Pet Chat is a fun live space where we talk about the pets in our life. We play games, they're a surprise and it's just a wholesome place for the community to meet. If you're listening to the replay, hello. And especially if you're listening on Good Pods, hello. Or if this is the first time you've found it, this will be a recording of our live show, so it might be a little odd, but we found a lot of people who either missed the time or missed the time zone or just like listening to the replay. They really enjoy having the replay going.

Speaker 2:

My teacher friend who said that she's just started listening to the pet chat. She listened to Jason Biddle, but she said she tried to play the kahoot but the link didn't work. Oh no, yeah It's true, and it's a replay. Wah, wah, wah. A message from the government of Canada. You cannot.

Speaker 3:

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait wait A message from the government of Canada.

Speaker 2:

On the replay. You can play the kahoot with us, but it's not live.

Speaker 3:

I don't know why that tickled me so much that we have the government of Canada jingle. I don't know.

Speaker 2:

The CRTC will be calling you.

Speaker 1:

The.

Speaker 3:

CRTC oh, that is through the Climax, and Netflix, oh yes.

Speaker 2:

The CRTC is texting.

Speaker 3:

That's right. I've already got some jokes lined up for this. that, yes, you betcha. So, speaking of kahoot, we love everybody to play kahoot. It's the way that we open up the show. Okay, all right, it's time to play pet chat. You guys gotta beat Chris. She is one week after week and really none of these are advantageous to her. Okay, a year long clinical trial successfully desensitized kids with serious peanut allergies to being able to eat four peanuts, being able to eat one peanut, being able to eat all peanuts or being able to eat oh, that's it to each eat, being able to eat 10 peanuts.

Speaker 2:

So this was on this one, Jason. This is like your semantics. It's like how many peanuts.

Speaker 3:

No, i think you're just salty because you didn't listen to the science podcast this week, because you've been so busy.

Speaker 2:

I am a salted peanut.

Speaker 3:

So, yeah, a very cool study. After a year, 67% of the like they're toddlers, like little kids wore this peanut patch and it desensitized them. They were really, really allergic to peanuts And after the year long trial they were able to eat four peanuts without having any allergic reaction. And that's a big deal for people who are really, really allergic to peanuts because, like a tiny peanut maybe would have killed them or, you know, sent them into an anaphylactic reaction and now those kids could eat some peanuts like three to four peanuts. I don't know if that's enough to have a peanut butter sandwich. Do you remember I told the story in the podcast about Duncan getting sent to the no nuts table because I sent him with a peanut butter sandwich to his school?

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

Do you remember this? I do.

Speaker 2:

Because he was so picky. He was so picky.

Speaker 3:

What did we send him because he couldn't have peanut butter? What did he eat? Lunchables Was did he eat lunchables?

Speaker 2:

We struggled, we really struggled with the nut free Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Because the only sandwich he would eat was peanut butter sandwiches.

Speaker 2:

Actually remember when SpongeBob came out, then he started to eat burgers.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but you can't send a kid with a burger.

Speaker 2:

I think we did.

Speaker 3:

We might have actually sent him with a cold burger, because he wanted to have a crappy patty. Okay, oh my God, chris, did you get that right? How did you know that? There's no way you knew that.

Speaker 2:

Well what do you mean?

Speaker 3:

Maybe I am really too difficult to keep an allergy. You must be listening to the science podcast in secret, okay, On good points.

Speaker 2:

I was plugging it today.

Speaker 3:

On the science podcast. A study looked at a vegan diet for dogs and found it was totally healthy for the dogs It was okay, but meat protein did better. The dogs didn't want to eat it or it lacked some nutrients and over time would have been bad. So this is also on the science podcast this week and it also relates to everybody in the community who has a dog something very interesting. And it was shocking and I was wrong.

Speaker 3:

Somebody had asked me a year ago and I'm not a vet so I should have kept my mouth shut but I did say or I reacted to a tag that dogs the dog, should eat a vegan diet And I was like that's, that's bananas. What are you talking about? Dogs are dogs should have meat, and I just forgot about it. And then this study came out and they put they put dogs on a carefully crafted vegan diet, like a vegan diet for dogs, with like beans and carrots, and it was all vegetarian, like vegan, no meat, and the dogs did great. And the dogs did way better than kibble and they looked at their, they looked at their poop and they looked at their blood. They looked at everything and it was shocking. The dogs on this vegan diet did better than the dogs on kibble and it was comparable to dogs on raw food, like what Bunsen and Beaker are on.

Speaker 3:

So I was wrong and I admitted that on the podcast and I think it's important when you're wrong, to admit that you're wrong. And I was wrong. Um, yeah, the dogs were and it's shocking right. You think that dogs are meat eaters, but they're not. They're not. They're scavengers and they can go months and months without even having animal protein and be totally fine. So I don't know, pretty wild, hey, chris.

Speaker 2:

Well, i don't think it's so wild because I'm a vegetarian, but when I was sourcing out raw food, i spoke with a lot of people who were in more in the know than I was and they talked about it. They talked about how wolves would take down um, like a herbivore and the undigested. I guess plant material would have been in their stomachs and they would have eaten that. So that's like a full, balanced diet.

Speaker 3:

Interesting. Yeah, and I don't want to and, as I said on the pot, you can listen to the pot. I'm going to do a podcast and learn a lot more. This is just kind of like a recap. I just thought it was so interesting.

Speaker 2:

So a lot of people, we're not vegetarian, so we don't really know.

Speaker 3:

No, I'm just parroting back this study and it was, you know they. they did it with just one breed of dog, beagles, but there was lots of them. There's, like, i think, 40 beagles in the study, like a large. it was a large population for an animal study. Um, okay, yeah, um, cats, though cats. right now there's no evidence that cats can have a vegan diet. They're obligate carnivores and they're like I think there's a one amino acid, tarin, they need that comes from animal protein. maybe in the future And again, i, i, maybe, i'm I'd all be proven wrong. Okay, chris, did you get that right?

Speaker 2:

Yes, I did because I am a mammal.

Speaker 3:

Okay, so we've got Slim Shady.

Speaker 2:

Tings Jet.

Speaker 3:

Cat and Kathy again. Okay, next question. Oh, this is a poll. This is worth no points. I just want to get some information from everybody. I've been trying some new things over the last two weeks, so just vote on your favorite. I do a good news fact. Once a day, you'll notice, we are having dynamic podcast announcements with videos. Here's my daily breaking news Dogs are good and the science fact. What's your favorite thing? What's your favorite thing? Oh no, the one that people like the least is the dynamic podcast announcements. Oh, no, okay, and it's a tie between all those. So the people's least favorite, chris, is those videos I make about the podcast.

Speaker 2:

I've been making them.

Speaker 3:

I know You've been helping. I'm not going to stop those because they're really good advertising for the podcast, but it's good to know that you guys like the other stuff. You don't like the ads for the pot. I'm sorry about that. Maybe if you have some suggestions on how we could make that better, give us a shout. I like making those little videos but maybe nobody likes them. Okay, but that's good. I asked, you know, you don't know until you ask. All right. Next question What is beaker collar holes and text from Bunsen. Artistic depressions. None of your beeswax, heidi, spots beaker holes. Text from Bunsen. This week got almost a hundred thousand impressions. They were really popular this week, and that doesn't include the other social media sites that I put it on. Okay, yeah, it's artistic depressions. That was a pretty good punch Punch line there.

Speaker 2:

Beaker- And you did an interpretive dance.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, that was a two-parter, that was a two-parter.

Speaker 2:

It was two parts.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, a joke is.

Speaker 2:

The only thing it was missing was let's watch.

Speaker 3:

Oh, but he was talking to beaker though.

Speaker 2:

That's true.

Speaker 3:

He needs to be talking to Adam Ooh Tinks you are just behind Chris. Cat, silky and Big Shady are coming up the leaderboard.

Speaker 3:

Ooh, I better pick up my thought Dogs can detect this amazing thing with their nose Sound, light, ghosts, heat. So one of these things dogs can detect with their nose And I posted a video earlier this week about it It was heat. Yeah, so maybe vibrations with their nose? I mean that's possible, but heat They can definitely detect heat with their nose And it is from a long distance away. They can actually detect something that a human you or I or anybody listening would have to basically put their hands next to to feel They can detect from like four to six feet away, like temperature change with their nose. It's unbelievable. Dogs are so cool. Oh, chris got that right, but Tinks is right behind you, big Shady's coming up, silky and Hoot. Okay, last question Moose antlers are considered a and we talked to Jason Biddle this week type of skin or keratin structure and organ or bone.

Speaker 3:

So if you talk to uncle it scientists, what are moose antlers? skin, keratin structures, organs or bones? They are considered an organ, not a keratin structure. Organ would be a horn. So with that we broke down the different. Jason broke down the difference there. Yeah, it's no, it's a, it's an organ. He made the analogy that it's like growing kidneys out of your head. That's what. That's what moose do. All right on the leaderboard We have Big Shady, and third second place we have Tinks and Chris. you won again. You were hard to beat. Good job, chris, well done.

Speaker 2:

He tells me that I'm unbeatable.

Speaker 3:

Okay, well, we're gonna have to have like some questions that only the people in the chat would get, not, chris, but congratulations to everybody who played. Well done, all right. We have bark and beyond supplycom in the chat. I think we should do a word from our sponsor If they're sponsoring the chat today. I just saw in DM Yes, please, pet Chat today is brought to you by bark and beyond supplycom. Thanks for being our sponsor. Okay, chris, do you want to start with your pet story?

Speaker 2:

I sure can. It's been a very, very busy week.

Speaker 3:

It has been a week.

Speaker 2:

But my pet story has to do with our walk the other day. Bunsen and I and Beaker and you went for the long walk because we're still avoiding the area where the duck is nesting or we're not sure duck is still nesting, but we definitely want to avoid that area, especially with our little Beaker who you know sometimes she runs with her paws and then is not as agile. She would step on the word read or anyway, we don't want catastrophe to lead by a different way. And I was remarking I said hey, wow, where are all the mosquitoes? And you said yeah, interesting.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, where are they all?

Speaker 2:

Where are all the mosquitoes? We did their whole walk and this time last year we would have been covered in mosquitoes. I remember going up the hill and having to hit you in the back.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

Gently to try and get them all off of you. And anyways, we walked back and you said oh, i have my crocs on So I can't go get Beaker from the creek, because sometimes she's still working on her listening. Her listening ears were definitely turned off and I had my rubber boots on, And so I had to go into the area that is covered in trees and shrubs and the creek and Beaker was not having any of my calling her, none of my trying to catch her. Every time I crossed the creek she would go and jump to the other side of the creek. But then, jason, you know what I found out where all the mosquitoes were.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, down in the creek.

Speaker 2:

Right there where I was getting eaten alive because Beaker would just go to the one side, to the other, and finally I was able to get her and bring her back. And then there you were, in your dry crocs and we went in the house.

Speaker 3:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

Yes, it has been a week and we've been definitely prioritizing any of our free time to make sure the dogs are still getting their exercise, but it's been bananas. You barely got back in time for this from running around all day for the Marching Show Band Classic that's on tomorrow, right?

Speaker 2:

It's on tomorrow and I am so excited about the Marching Show, band Classic and the Red Deer Royals. They're going to premiere their field show High Octane. tomorrow is going to be fantastic and the kids are ready and the food's ready. No one's going to be angry because I have 1,800 hot dogs.

Speaker 3:

There's so many hot dogs. I can't believe there's that many hot dogs.

Speaker 2:

There's quite a few. And then the chips. And then the ladies were making fun of me, my Royals mom group. They were like do you think you have enough? I said, well, i probably have more than enough. I'm so excited. So the businesses in town were super generous with their donations and we have a silent auction going right now and then we have a raffle. We have 36 items in the raffle.

Speaker 3:

Plus a bunsen. There's a bunsen stuffy.

Speaker 2:

There is a bunsen stuffy with stickers that I have to make tonight to take for tomorrow.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, we support the Royals with a bunsen stuffy. And then there's going to be an in-person auction with things that like. The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra donated tickets Actually, they donated tickets for all of their shows for this whole season to ticket. And the Calary Philharmonic Orchestra donated as well to tickets to a show coming up. It's amazing. The generosity of our community and the communities around us just makes me very clumped. Well, that's awesome. Proud to be a Royale.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you've been working so hard at that, scoring around Red Deer, and I've been going in the opposite direction. This week has been so busy, cuz. Months and months ago I was asked by the city of Red Deer to be one of the one of the quote-unquote headline acts for the Red Deer Children's Festival and I was like sure. And then, oh, spoiler alert, it's the same weekend as the Marching show band classic and I need to my van full to the brim with all of my science nonsense, to do the show, and Chris needs our van to run around town. So it was a bit of a juggling act. Chris luckily, was able to borrow a vehicle from another Family and then I was able to get there. So that's what I've been doing. The last couple couple days was I had two Stage shows and then I had a little booth that kids would come up to to do little science experiments with me. Now that doesn't have anything to do with pets, so I'll tell my pet story and then we can get to community sharing.

Speaker 2:

Sure, i was just gonna say, like you had said, hey, let's change the plan about the van, because Jason and I had made a plan. And I just called my friend and I said, hey, what are you doing? And she's like well, i'm working all day. I said, well, well, your vehicle is typically in the parking lot, can I just come get it? and? And I said, can you drive a standard? And she's like well, not, since I was 19. She's like yes, i can. I said, okay, well, can we trade? and she said, yes, sure, and it was super helpful because I had to haul a whole bunch of stuff.

Speaker 2:

Yeah to the venue.

Speaker 3:

I couldn't fit any more stuff in my van And I felt when I like, when I went there, i was a little jealous of, i was a little jealous of some of the other performers, because there was like a singer and all she had was a guitar And I was like you know, you know, you know, maybe I just need to pick up a guitar instead of like an entire crate of nonsense.

Speaker 2:

so, yeah, Anyway, how do you tell your dog or your pet story from this week?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, i guess nothing too major. But I took the dogs on a walk today, and by a walk I mean. Bunsen came out about halfway, realized how hot it was and then ran back to the shade. And without Chris around, bunsen refuses to go on walks. So Chris is the reason why Bunsen comes on walks in the summer.

Speaker 3:

So Bunsen is just like nope, this is stupid. And he ran back into the shade So I can't kind of like leave him unsupervised. He's a good boy, but you know I Would hate anything to happen to him. So I will like trudged back and like brought him into the house and then ginger of course escapes Because she's just listening by the door for us to open it and she shoots out and like, oh my god, so scoop up the cat. And by then beaker is down in that same spot that Chris was talking about And she was just like just standing in that water because it's deep there.

Speaker 3:

It's like the only part of the creek that's deep and now that we can't go where the where beaker slew is Where it's deep, i think she just misses swimming. So she was just swimming down in that super awkward spot. I took some video of her, chris, in her like deep spot. So we went on a walk and it was a lot of fun. I did go around where the duck was, chris, but I had beaker on leash So I wanted to see if the duck I didn't see the duck, but definitely beaker was on the leash when we went that way because I didn't want her to I don't know Chase the duck or disturb that's nest or God forbid, eat its eggs or something like that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but Jason, you have to remember you couldn't see the duck when it was there. Yeah, I'm a pledge was so great.

Speaker 3:

I did look pretty closely, but again, like I, i, i Major beaker was not off leash. Bunsen wouldn't care, he would just not even see the duck.

Speaker 2:

He looked in there he did yeah, he looked, he's like, oh, that's interesting. And then he was like I'm just gonna go play over here.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And a quick ginger story that everybody might find hilarious. Ginger sleeps, random places. She Has yet to pick like a standard place that she will sleep at night. I don't know if this is normal for cats, but like every night or every two, two nights She sleeps in a completely different spot and for two nights in a row her spot that she was sleeping Was at the foot of the bed, by my feet, like super weird. Like right on the edge of the bed and I'm a very tall guy, so right by my feet.

Speaker 3:

And Both nights She's like bit my feet. I must have been moving while I was sleeping and she's like ha, and I'm like wow, and I wake up with this cat like nibbling at My feet, like not hard, but like it's very startling To come out of a deep sleep when the cat isn't biting your feet. So I think I accidentally like booted her the one night from my sleep so she doesn't sleep there anymore. She's like oh, that's a dangerous place to sleep for me. But have you noticed that, chris, like she sleeps randomly everywhere, like she hasn't picked a place to sleep?

Speaker 2:

She, i was looking at one of your podcast. Oh, kathy Zercher sent a tag this in a post about the cat, the cat scientist who was talking about how cats will hide when they feel afraid. And I was just thinking about ginger and how she arrived at her house and she Has that southern sass where she's like nothing in this house is scary to me nothing.

Speaker 2:

I am going to be Sauntering around. Oh, i see a big Oh dog over there. I'm not scared of him. Um, pretty much from day one She has she had no fear of Bunsen, no fear and sleeps wherever.

Speaker 3:

Like I bought all those cat trees she pushed Bunsen out of his dog bed one day.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, oh, this is my place now and Bunsen's like uh, okay, So I bought all those tall trees so that she would be able to have a place without Out. Like to be able to go and feel safe. Yeah um no, but now she does go in them, but I think not to necessarily feel safe, but I think to watch the birds.

Speaker 3:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

She's got like a bird's-eye view of all the birds in the feeder and she's on the inside looking out, but it's very interested in what they're doing and you get a better view from up there.

Speaker 3:

The view is always sweeter for the higher up you go, i guess.

Speaker 3:

I guess, Well, okay, that's my, that's my pet story and I just wanted to remind everybody. We've decided to keep the presale Open a bit longer for the ginger stuffy. We've gone through, we've, we've okayed, moving forward with making it. So, like they, it is a definite thing. But for folks that maybe needed a bit more time or wanted to think about it, we're gonna keep the ginger presale open just a bit longer and and Not not this weekend, because this weekend is a gong show, but next weekend We're gonna organize some of the the the extra goodies, the optional goodies, the five months of catatouche. I'm super excited about the five months of catatouche part of the ginger presale. Chris has been hard at working. Yeah, chris has been hard at work, making sassy sayings that we're gonna pick from. That's gonna go on some ginger stuff. Okay, i think it's time to move to community sharing. I think.

Speaker 2:

Hey, i Think it is okay.

Speaker 3:

So do you want to read the ground rules or do you want me to go over them?

Speaker 2:

I can go over the ground rules.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

We are a community space where we like to share and laugh and Commiserate, and the space is welcome to all. But it is a PG space, so Keep that in mind when you are sharing your stories as well. If we don't know you, we do do a little bit of a background check on Your account to see what you are tweeting about and if it's especially if it's not in line with The Branding, our science, empathy and cuteness Tagline, then you may not get up to speak. But that's not to say that we won't reach out and reach out through DM to see Maybe a little bit more about what you're about. Yeah, you might get up to speak, but we have been Bitten before and So we're a little bit shy that's right, and we have a whole bunch of people tonight listening on Facebook live.

Speaker 3:

It's fluctuating between 25 and 50 people. So if you're on Facebook live listening in, you can't, unfortunately, grab a mic to speak, but you can put questions or comments into the chat. So we would love, we would love for you to connect on Facebook live. Hello, okay, chris, looks like we got somebody up. They can go.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i brought up Kathy Hi, kathy Hi.

Speaker 5:

For a change. Tonight My story is about Minnie, my cat. Oh, i have to thank cowboy cat ranch. For changing her life. I just can't believe it. So I've been following the things that they've been suggesting to enrich Minnie's life in our house, and first of all we bought a, an extra large cat tree, which my husband said she's never gonna want to cry, saying that's ridiculous. She's sleeping there right now on the top. She absolutely loves it.

Speaker 4:

She knew from three minutes in that it was hers.

Speaker 5:

So that was one thing, and then the other thing is Cowboy cat ranch tweeted the other day here are three toys That you could order for your cat. So of course they ordered all three. And the two that she's been introduced to are One is like a pyramid with tracks and balls in them. The second I put it down. She not only knew exactly what to do, she went crazy for it. I mean, i've never seen that cat play with anything before in the several years she's been in our house. That was a true winner. And then I moved it over, so it's kind of near her cat tree. She just goes over there randomly and starts playing with it, and just anytime.

Speaker 5:

The other one is a little Like a small tower No, exactly a tower. Anyway, it's got three Containers, small containers that you can put treats or food in and they spin around and dump out. She hasn't learned how to dump them out yet, but there's also sort of a maze kind of thing at the bottom That the cat treats fall into and she has figured out how to use her little paws And that those treats around until she gets them out and she can eat them. So it's just completely changed her personality, having those toys and having that cat treat for So just thank you so much for that.

Speaker 3:

That's awesome. I have put. I put the post. I believe you're referencing Kathy in the nest. $3, $10 to $20 purchases that can make your cat happy.

Speaker 5:

Yes, absolutely.

Speaker 3:

Right, and I put another post up in the nest that cowboycatwrench tweeted. You can win of this fantastic book called Kitty Language if you basically post a picture of your cat And then there'll be a winner on June 13th. So everybody with a cat if you'd like to have a shot at winning that book. And Kitty Language is written by Lily Shin or Shin, and it's all about understanding how your cat moves around and its body language and its sound. So it's good for first time cat owners like us and other cat owners. So I love that they're doing a book giveaway. That's cool.

Speaker 2:

Right. Just to go a little bit further to that, dr Sebastian Boll did put in the tweet, like a recent adoption, if you've rescued a cat recently And I think that's probably because that's probably the best time when you're getting a new cat You've rescued it recently to practice those Kitty Language techniques with your cat. But I'm not 100% sure about that. But if you just read the post, there's more information in there for you.

Speaker 5:

And also there's another addendum to that post that you can click on and link and order it, which is what I did, because we've had many for a little while. But I'm still going to be really interested in it And it looks like a really fascinating book. I took a look at, just like the first page that they'll show you on Amazon. So just another little shout out to Cowboy Cat Ranch, because you guys are the best. You are the best. Thank you, you're welcome.

Speaker 3:

Aw, that's great Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And I'm bringing Dr Sebastian up to talk, probably a little bit more, to give us more information. Hi.

Speaker 6:

Hi, thanks so much for mentioning this And, cathy, i'm so incredibly happy to hear this, and this is the only reason why we do what we do is trying to make other cats as happy as we can possibly do. So I'm smiling ear to ear, i'm super happy to hear this. And, yeah, so we got into touch with Lily Chin, who's a fantastic artist, and she also has a book on doggy language, which is very popular. So if you don't have cats, but only have dogs and are interested, those are absolutely phenomenal books. She did some artwork for us for a paper for Frontiers for Young Minds, which is a scientific journal specifically for children, and she made one of the cartoons for that article.

Speaker 6:

And recently she made the book about kitty language, after which is a sequel to doggy language, and I already pre-ordered it months ago because I definitely wanted to have it. And she recently sent me a message on Twitter asking me for my address because the release date is June 13th, so a little bit more than a week And she was offering to send me one, and I talked about it with her And I decided, since I already ordered it, that we would give it away to someone who recently, or fairly recently adopted a cat. Just like Jason and Chris mentioned, i think it's very important, especially when you bring a cat home for the first time, that you understand the signs the signals that the cats is giving you.

Speaker 3:

Thanks, sebastian. We're lucky to have you as a resource that tweets and we can augment your amazing messages about making cats happy Because we have a cat and we love her so much. Boy, she wormed into our heart so quickly. I never thought I'd be that person to love a little cat, but Chris catches me holding the cat like a baby sometimes And I think she just rolls her eyes.

Speaker 2:

No, it's awesome. It's amazing how you have bonded with Ginger. I bonded with her in the store, jason. you know how I always said you know I could.

Speaker 3:

As soon as you saw her, you and Adam were like this cat Yeah.

Speaker 2:

This. Yeah, i was like no, we have to make this one work. So I'm so glad we have her And she's so cute and so good.

Speaker 3:

Sebastian, that sounds like Lily. Sounds like somebody we should have on the podcast. I should DM her and see if she'd be interested.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, i think that would be a wonderful idea, and she doesn't only draw dogs and cats, but a whole range of animals, and it's definitely worth a while to have a look at her Twitter account, because she makes these fantastic drawings and she really combines drawing, the art of drawing, with science, so everything that she draws is very accurate. So that's fantastic, nice.

Speaker 3:

Okay, we'll go over to and thank you for that. I believe Tracy's next, eh, Hi, Tracy.

Speaker 4:

Hi guys doing.

Speaker 3:

We're good. How are?

Speaker 4:

you, tracy, i'm good. So it's Ricky's birthday this week, on June 1st, oh so two days ago.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Happy birthday. Yeah, and you've got your Bark and Beyond stuff, Thank you, And I had gotten the box from Bark and Beyond from the for yeah, i got that the day before.

Speaker 3:

Oh, the big prize, yeah, the big prize, right.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. So I got that on the 31st of May and then I opened it with him on June 1st, his birthday, and he was like sniffing all around everything, thank y'all And so. But then he ultimately loved the box, so he did the cat thing of going in the box.

Speaker 3:

That is cute.

Speaker 4:

So yeah, so I have a picture of him like in the box, because what else would he do?

Speaker 3:

It's pretty cute that cats love boxes so much. I never thought that was. I thought it was always like not a thing. But ginger goes in boxes too.

Speaker 4:

So thank you guys again, and I was really glad to get that.

Speaker 3:

Oh, that's awesome. Well, thank you for coming to Pet Chat and also to Bark and Beyond. That was an amazing prize. That it was the cat or the dog bundle and Tracy was one of the lucky winners. I've got some nice jazz going in the background about birthdays. This is my favorite birthday song.

Speaker 2:

Jason, since when do you like jazz?

Speaker 3:

I like this song. It's like a smooth happy birthday.

Speaker 2:

It is smooth. But I'm just so happy for you, tracy, and I'm so happy for Ricky, and he was looking in the pantry. The other day you posted a picture about him going. Hmm, what's going on in there?

Speaker 3:

It's pretty cute.

Speaker 4:

Just because he wants to live on treats. But I won't let him.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, of course. Well, it never hurts to try, right.

Speaker 4:

He definitely does. He'll just like be moody and like sit in the back of the pantry, so he does that too, and then eventually I'll just be like, okay, fine, i'll give you a little bit, but I do measure his food and stuff so He has you well trained. He does.

Speaker 3:

Chris, i'm just going through my bookmarks. Do you have anybody else that's coming up?

Speaker 2:

You know what I don't? There hasn't been any other requests to speak and I will just go through the comments that are showing up for me in the chat. Tina put a cute little video of Kurt Cobain. That's her most recent well, maybe not the most recent, but definitely a recent rescue that she has and everybody else are just kind of making awesome comments, but no one has a question. I'm going to miss one question in the hoot.

Speaker 3:

Up in the nest. I have put the link to the newest science podcast episode. Chris, we are one spot behind Bill Nye the Science Guy right now. I'm looking at it right now out of all podcasts on the platform on earth, we are 26th right now. This is like overall, bill Nye the Science Guy is 25th. We zoomed past Dr DeGracie Tyson. We're breathing down Bill Nye the Science Guy's neck.

Speaker 2:

I definitely was bragging about it in the car today, about the science podcast and just that. we have reach and we have local reach, but then also we're making an impact, i believe global, i know it's very cool, but we wouldn't be able to get there without listeners.

Speaker 4:

Thank you for listening.

Speaker 3:

Thank you to everybody listening to the science podcast and, if you haven't, give us a try, we have three shows that come out a week and I'm thinking about a fourth thing I could maybe do. I'll pitch it to you a little later, chris. I have an idea. It would be really good for teachers, because I'm doing it anyways every Sunday with those little videos I'm shooting. But anyways, thanks for listening to the science podcast, and the newest episode is out. It's got skin patches for allergies, the plant based vegan diet for dogs and then Dr Yara Hardy, who, man, that was a cool guest. She studies dinosaur bones, but specifically like the bone cells, and from that they can figure out how old dinosaurs are, how long they lived, and that one of the evidence points for why dinosaurs were covered with feathers They have these little nubs in their bones that the feathers grew right into. It was a really cool discussion with Dr Yara. That's this week's show. Cowboy Sebastian, your hands up, go ahead, and then we'll go to Benny and Bowie, aka Lisa.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, what I just wanted to mention is I get very nervous typically when I speak. so what I'm planning to do tomorrow, at seven o'clock central time, which is the same time as as this patch had started today, i'll just be informally meeting on Twitter Spaces talking about enrichment for cats. So if you have any questions, we can meet there and we can discuss as many details as you need. maybe to you know how to grow cat grass, where can I find food puzzles, how do I make wall shelves, those kind of things. So tomorrow, the same time as the patch had started today, That's awesome, sebastian, very cool.

Speaker 3:

Okay, over to Benny Bowie aka Lisa. Hello, hello.

Speaker 7:

How are you?

Speaker 3:

I'm good. Thanks for posting that very heartwarming picture of the box of Bunsen and Beakers and stuff and for what you're doing with the kids.

Speaker 7:

Oh, my goodness. Well, this is why I wanted to speak to thank you guys, because this is absolutely amazing. You absolutely made my Friday. When I received the message from on my email saying a package has been delivered from Bunsen and Beaker, it was just. I was so excited So I texted my husband. I said did a big box company goes? it's a huge box.

Speaker 3:

It was so big I was scared they were going to send it It was amazing.

Speaker 7:

So just so, just a little bit of a backstory on that so everybody knows what's going on With what I do. I interview children who've been victims of child abuse. That's part of my job as police officer. And after we interview children has to be only after, and they have no idea that we're going to even offer this. We give them an opportunity to pick out a stuffy, just sort of as a comfort to everything that they've been going through.

Speaker 7:

And after I did a child interview a couple of weeks ago, i was looking at our box of stuffies, which is totally diminished, and police officers usually make the donations to that. So it I thought you know what. I have this great idea, because there's these stuffies that I absolutely adore and I actually own two of them. Hopefully I will own three of them soon because there's a little ginger stuffy coming out, and it's just so. I thought you know what I'm just going to, just going to put it out there. So I approached Chris and Jason and I said I have this idea. Would you be willing and to? if it, would it be okay if you participated in this? and we got some Bunsen and Beaker stuffies and they were absolutely fantastic and they made it possible for this to come out. So it was just. They agreed to this.

Speaker 7:

So I said this is fantastic and I, and there was just one sort of little thing that I asked with. That was can Bunsen and Beaker post a message to the kids? because it's just when a dog or a pet speaks to them, it speaks volumes. So they were just so on board and they gave these amazing postcards with pictures of Bunsen and Beaker with these heartfelt messages that the kids are awesome and just in totally in tune with Beaker and Bunsen the way they speak. So it was just amazing.

Speaker 7:

So I was practically tearful when I was reading these, but it was just. And then this huge packet of of stickers as well, and stickers if anybody has kids knows how far a sticker can go. So it's just, it was just absolutely amazing. So I cannot wait to bring these stuffies to work on Monday and show them to my colleagues and say this is what we're going to have. So I will post a picture of all the stuffies outlined or on the thing, and it was just. Sadly we can't post any of the kids because that's confidentiality, but it was just. I am just so excited because I think these stuffies are going to just make such a huge difference. So thank you so much, chris and Jason for this.

Speaker 3:

Well, thank you for thinking of us for this project.

Speaker 7:

It is absolutely huge. And my pet story attached to this is when I did post a picture and of course all the stuffies are still in there plastic. But guess which one Bunsen picked, or, excuse me, bunsen, benson picked and ran away with.

Speaker 3:

What do you think, chris?

Speaker 7:

Beaker, of course, beaker, beaker. And he picked it up and trotted away and it was a game of tag to get it back and it was just. It was just hilarious and I thought, yeah, you truly do love this, this beaks, little beaks. So, anyway, i just wanted to say thank you again and just point out that kindness matters to you guys. It's not just a tagline with you, it truly is what you do, it's a practice. So thank you, so so much.

Speaker 3:

Well, i'm Oliver Klimt. I don't know if I can speak for a second here.

Speaker 2:

Me too. We're. We are just so honored we can participate in this because we work with kids every day and we love working with our students and they become well. I always say these are my kids. It's like I only have two biological kids, but I have hundreds of kids that that make an impact on our lives and like we would like to be able to positively impact other people's lives, and Jason knows the science behind like the connection with a dog or the connection with pets and I think that's just yeah, and in studies it's transferable to a stuffy.

Speaker 3:

So it's it. I just my heart breaks for the kids that you have to interview and, if any, if, if we can help in any small way or the messages that we sent, or like a sticker, or just hugging one of those stuffies tight, it's worth it.

Speaker 7:

It is so worth it and thank you again. Like it, i just can't express enough how much, how excited I am about this and it's just and no.

Speaker 3:

I'm glad I got there, because that was one big box to send through Canada Post. Oh wait, you know what? we should have had A message from the government of Canada. Your package has arrived. There you go.

Speaker 2:

That's. That's the thing that you missed, lisa, at the beginning our announcement from the government of Canada. Jason ripped it off the internet and now he's going to use it non-stop. He's used it about five times.

Speaker 3:

I don't know what it is, i just can't. I love that jingle. The other one I want is the Who's Hinterland whistle. You know like, you know like when, yeah, who's Who, the Who's Hinterland, or whatever. Yeah, i'm going to steal that too. I'm going to steal that. Only Canadians of our age get that, the Who's Hinterland, and I'm sure it with my students and this comes from like 1976.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, it's so old.

Speaker 2:

It's so old, but definitely good.

Speaker 3:

It's so good.

Speaker 2:

The Swift Fox.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the Swift Fox.

Speaker 2:

Extrapated, and then I watched the Peregrine Falcon for biomanification.

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Hinterlands Who's Who?

Speaker 3:

Hinterlands Who's Who? Okay, we'll go to Donna. Thanks for waiting, donna.

Speaker 1:

Oh, no worries, Because I saw Lisa hanging out there and she didn't request to speak and I was trying to prod her to come up and she already did So. Lisa, you have literally won the toughest jobs on the planet and thank you for doing that work. When that box showed up and you posted that, that cracked my cold dead heart. So I was sitting here crying kind of tears of joy but sadness for what those kids go through. But I guess instead of Benny playing, grab the dish towel and run. he was grabbing beaker and running. So I laugh every time you post those. But thank you, lisa, and thank you Chris and Jason.

Speaker 1:

I guess why Cowboy Cat Ranch is with the microphone. I wanted to ask if any of y'all have heard this before or seen this before, but I've been told this since I, as my mom would say, a wee lass, when you see a cat that has part of its tail missing, chances are it tangled with a snake. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but I was told that cats can hypnotize snakes with their tails and then kill them. So I don't know if that's accurate. I'm just asking a question for maybe future, or if Cowboy Cat Ranch knows, since he's so super knowledgeable. He lives where snakes are down here with me. So just curious about that. I had one in the yard the other day and I had Callie outside and she was in her little catio. but that snake was a little close to the catio. I just heard Callie making weird noises So I went running outside and grabbed a rake and pulled an Ingo a golden ratio dad and yeeted that snake over the fence.

Speaker 3:

Well in our neck of the wood in our neck of the wood, donna cats lose their tails from frostbite.

Speaker 1:

Well, i mean, sure, i can see that happening here, but we don't get as cold as you, but they're not. I mean, callie used to live on the streets for two years and now she's become accustomed to the lifestyle that she lives now and she used to want to go meow all the time and she really doesn't right now. So a trash bag scared her. So I wonder if bad people have put her in a trash bag So because she's not scared of anything Like Ginger, she walked into my house and was like mine. She would try to murder dogs, whatever It was like my house.

Speaker 3:

Well, we'll go to Sebastian. Go ahead, Sebastian. Do you have any idea there?

Speaker 6:

I have absolutely no idea, sorry.

Speaker 3:

Oh.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's okay. I had heard that Maybe we can talk to any snake charmer friends or if there's research down the way for a science post. But that's one thing I've heard. I don't know if that's accurate or not.

Speaker 3:

We did have a rattlesnake scientist the other day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i couldn't listen to that. I told you I have no.

Speaker 6:

What I was planning on doing tomorrow is to make it evidence-based. So if there are any questions and I don't know the answer, i'll be happy to search online and see if there's any evidence for a certain thought or a claim that is being made. So if there's time tomorrow, then I'll be happy to look into that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i'll pop on with you. I want to support you as well. I know when I ordered the silver vine or one of those mixes you had one time, callie went eight poo poo. So that's. I want to support you as well, sir.

Speaker 3:

Awesome, that would be an interesting adaptation. To charm a snake with your tail as a cat, isn't that part of the Jungle Book? Doesn't the snake like charm people with its eyes, or something? Chris?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yes.

Speaker 3:

That is. I definitely know that's not true.

Speaker 2:

I don't think it's true.

Speaker 3:

Okay, but.

Speaker 2:

Mowgli was charmed by that snake.

Speaker 3:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

And there was subliminal messaging and hypnosis happening.

Speaker 3:

That's right. That snake inceptioned him, that's right. Where was Leonardo DiCaprio to go into Mowgli's dreams?

Speaker 2:

I'm not sure, but where was Blue the Bear? Where was he? Was he sleeping or was he at the hunting pot?

Speaker 3:

No, he was doing nothing. That useless character. He was off like, probably singing and dancing. He should have been protecting that kid.

Speaker 2:

But he was off singing and dancing. That's right, Go ahead Donna.

Speaker 1:

I just found a YouTube video of a cat charming a snake.

Speaker 3:

Okay, well, there you go. You never know.

Speaker 1:

And it does say that your cuddly kitty is a predator and a skilled hunter. That's a cat's true purpose in life. But if your pet comes in contact with the snake, its predatory instincts will kick in and circle it and kill it. I don't know if that's true, but it's on Google. So Google is not always true on the Internet, but just saying.

Speaker 3:

Okay, well, i know, honey badgers go after snakes, all right. Um, where we don't, where we've run out of speakers, i think we can probably start to wrap up. Chris and I have had like a crazy long day And we've got a long day tomorrow, so I think that's probably a good place to kind of start to wrap up. What do you think, chris?

Speaker 2:

I do. I think this is a great time to wrap up because I still have like some odds and ends to get ready for the marching show by classic.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and we have a Yeah, and we also.

Speaker 2:

Etc, etc.

Speaker 3:

We also have a prize to give away from Bark and beyond, okay, okay. So if you're listening on Facebook, drop a comment. We would love for you to be involved. Speaker 3:

Okay, so 34.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 2:

Be curious about the Curiosity space rover.

Speaker 3:

That's right, you betcha. Yeah, i'm booking people into July now for SciChat. It's awesome. I love that. Yeah, to everybody who came to the show today, thank you, and especially our speakers sharing your stories and wholesome comments. Special shout out to Lisa with Benny and Bowie's account.
